Checkerboard or fullscreen white flashes in Chromium based apps (e.g. Edge, Chrome, FireFox, OCCT v12, etc.) in Windows 10/11

The issue of checkerboard and white flashes is being widely reported by users on other forums, but is being totally ignored by the mainstream youtubers, etc. Nvidia has already pointed the finger at Microsoft, who appears to have finally acknowledge the issue is theirs. Apparently, it's been an issue for almost 2 years, which makes me think it must not be affecting too many users. Is anyone here having the same issue when scrolling in Edge (or Chrome or Firefox) or watching a YouTube video or in version 12 of the OCCT application?? It's widely believed to be a very low-level Windows issue that affects both Windows 10 and Windows 11. Allegedly, a recent patch for Windows 11 is rolling out soon, or has rolled out, but the Windows 10 patch is still WIP. I would like to put to rest the idea that it could be video card hardware related issue as it seems to affect my RTX3080 far more than my RTX3060. The flashing is very random and might not occur for several minutes when watching youtube videos, but once it starts the flashing becomes more regular. A perfect example that I use to reproduce the problem is the video below. Again, it might not happen until nearer the end. I would greatly appreciate it if one or more of you could test for this issue and confirm my observation or let me know if you are already aware of the problem. Thanks!

My testing in Edge and OCCT is so far going very well. I tried every way possible to provoke the checkerboard flashing (sometimes 40% of screen). Fingers crossed that this fix continues to keep the flashing at bay.
The issue now appears to be fixed. Perhaps one of the moderators can flag this thread as "solved".
However, do please note that if you are running your output at 60Hz, you will not be affected by the checkerboarding. However, once you go over 60Hz, you'll need to install the Windows 10 KB5039299 patch, or whatever it ends up being rolled into [edit: it appears to be the mandatory July 2024 patch KB5040427].

Cheers!

Aware of and fixed it easily when it was giveing me a problem by Disable Hardware acceleration in Chrome
It is a Software/ driver problem, not a hardware one

Unfortunately, the issue is spreading now that applications are being ported over to the Chromium development platform - and no easy way to disable hardware acceleration, etc. I guess I will update this thread if and when Microsoft releases a Windows patch in case anyone is interested in the resolution. I think one is in the works for Windows 11 already. But thanks for confirming that you had the issue. I'm fairly confident my GPU is okay, but I'm still a little surprised at how this issue isn't getting a lot more attention being that it affects the most popular browsers and websites. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

It was covered quite well earlier this year

I just wanted to let people know that the optional Windows 10 update KB5039299 is reported to have a fix for the checkerboarding issue. I have just installed it and will be testing it over the next few days in Edge and OCCT. I will report back on the results. If it works for you, let us know.
Cheers!

That's good to hear. I wasn't aware Windows itself can be so bad lol
And it's also an "optional" fix o_0

Thanks, mate! Being that you so graciously marked it as solved, I added a little more info., especially as it relates to Windows 11 - since that was in the thread title.
Hey, at least what Microsoft breaks, they usually get around to fixing. It’s just a shame that we’re all beta testers these days, with games too…and cars…and smart TVs… :bonk:
