Hello. New member here. I have the same problem described in this thread, but I am using a MAG Tomahawk x670E WiFi board. Tried both an AverMedia capture card and an Elgato capture card in PCI-E slot E_3, and neither would show up in device manager. Moved them to E_2, and they worked fine. I have tried rolling back to the earliest BIOS, v1.00, and then went to v1.10, 1.20 and the latest 1.40 updates for my motherboard. I checked the beta BIOS list, and it does list the Tomahawk model in the spreadsheet image, but there were no files in the google drive for that model number.

I don't think I have seen another post in this thread with the Tomahawk board having this issue, so please let me know if there is another thread for that model that I should be posting in.

Board: MAG x670E Tomahawk WiFi
BIOS: 7E12v14
VGA: EVGA RTX3080 FTW3 Ultra
PSU: Corsair HX1000i
CPU: Ryzen 9 7950X
MEM: 4x16GB Corsair CMH32GX5M2B6000Z30 DDR5-6000 CL32 (64GB total)
HDD/SSD: Corsair Force mp600 1TB NVME boot drive, WD Black SN850X 2TB
COOLER: Corsair H115i Elite Capellix XT
Capture Card: AverMedia C027
Additional Capture Card: ElGato GameCapture HD60 Pro
OC: Default, EXPO 6000mhz
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

Pretty sure you're the First with the Tomahawk x670E WiFi and PCIE_3 not working
Can you test the PCIE-3 slot with a different non-capture card.
YA and no File for your Motherboard is listed

So PCIE_1 and PCIE_3 both use CPU you would need to set PCIE_1 Lanes to x8 in Bios

Very sorry for the mistake. I was too deep in reading this thread and the issues with the _E3 slot... On my board, it is actually the _E4 slot that is not functioning - the bottom-most PCIE slot of the board. I am not able to test _E2, since my videocard overhangs that slot. The _E3 slot currently works okay with both capture cards.

I will also add, in case it is relevant, i have also tried setting the Chipset Gen Switch to Gen 1, 2, 3 and 4 with no different results.

Well it should be working even if all M,2 Slots are in use
so not a problem there
Are you able to test PCIE_4 with a different PCIE card any kind will do USB, or Network Card just to see if it may be at Fault and not recognise any PCIE Cards or if just the two Capture cards
I will see if our contact can shed some light and test for compatibility,

Hi have a test bios for you please see PM
Hello,

I also have this problem. I did send you a PM.

MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI
BIOS: E7E12AMS.152 (10/18/2023)
AMD Ryzen 7800x3d
Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000MHz 64GB 2x32GB
Corsair RMx Series RM850x 850W 80 Plus Gold Modular
MSI GeForce RTX 4070 VENTUS 3X E OC 12GB GDDR6
Samsung 980 PRO 2TB SSD PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2
Elgato Game Capture HD60 Pro

GPU: PCIE slot 1
NVME: NVME slot 4
CAPTURE: PCIE slot 3 or 4 (tried both, PCIE 2 is underneath the GPU, can't use it)

I think the capture card doesn't even receive power, as not even the HDMI passthrough works (in: xbox, out: monitor)

I tried several bios settings, specifically changing the gen of PCIE slot 3 and 4, nothing worked

If you have a test bios that could fix this, I would greatly appretiate it!

thank you.

Hello Alan,

sadly this did not work.

I moved the Elgato Game Capture HD60 Pro from PCI_E3 to PCI_E4, installed the test bios, activated "Force PE4 x2" and it doesn't work.
Capture card is still not detected.

Like I mentioned: apparently it doesn't even receive power from PCI_E3 or PCI_E4

aditional question:

in the user manual it sais
"PCI_E4 & M2_4 share the bandwidth. M2_4 will run at x2 speed when installing device in the PCI_E4 slot."

so, if I use PCI_E4 for the Elgato Game Capture HD60 Pro, will that affect my Samsung 980 PRO 2TB SSD PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 negatively?

my Samsung 980 PRO 2TB SSD PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 is on M2_4 and I can't move it.

thank you.

Yes if you place a PCIE Card in PCIE_4 it will limit M.2_4 to PCIE4.0x2
As to the Elgato Card, it was found that there may be a hardware limitation due to the way the Elgatto was originally Manufactured

Compatibility problem, some PCIE cards that do not support a present pin function will have a detection problem
VER1.1 has added the present pin function so the card can be detected in every PCIE slot (x1, x4, x8, x16)
VER1.0 lacks this function so it can be detected in PCIE x1 slot only.
To check present pin function, you need to touch pin PRSNT2# and PRSNT1# with multimeter.
When test = 0ohm it means present pin function is there.
MSI expect you would not observe Test = 0ohm since that capture card does not appear support present pin function.

Hello again,

if I used a cable like this:

to extend the PCI_E2 and connect the elgato there, would that work?

thanks for your time.

Not sure it may work and is cheaper than going for a New Capture card
Can you pull your GPU and test the Elgatto in PCIE slot one and PCIE slot two you can use the Motherboard onboard Video Out to connect to the monitor
If it works correctly in PCIE slots one and Two then it will work with the riser cable

Hello Alan,
due my current finances, I have not been able to buy a new capture card yet.

but I just saw that this new BIOS came out:
7E12v182(Beta version)

but I can't find a changelog for it.
is it possible this new BIOS fixes my problem?

Is there such a thing as the changelog anymore? I can't find a changelog for half the bios versions that have come out lately :( Thought it was just me not looking in the right places :D

Nope not really no change loges are provided just some very brief notes like Updated bios to xxxx

Sadly a Bios update will not fix a hardware incompatibility like yours.

Would it be possible to receive the test bios. Just built a whole pc around my MAG X670E Tomahawk and the el gato 4k60 mk 2 doesn't read in my PCIE 3 slot. I have a 4090 so i cant uses any other pcie slot on the board. Trying the test bios is my last hope .

Reviving an old thread as this may be useful.

FWIW. The only way I got my Avermedia PCIe capture card (circa 2009) to work was to disable 4G crypto mining and Re Size Bar. Generally turning off 4G will disable Re Size Bar and that apparently will force the GPU to read data in (smaller) chunks, leaving some GPU performance left on the table. Some models from another brand allows you to toggle each off independently.

With my MSI X670-P WIFI board and many other brands those setting effect all PCIe lanes (to different degrees in my case) as per Intel's adopted specifications. I had other PCIe card manufacturers admit the issue although they are not advertising such. ASK THEM "CAN I USE THIS WITH 4G CRYPTO AND and RE SIZE BAR ENABLED" It is a case of buy your device first and we will advise the workaround when you contact us. Tech not keeping up with the pace; as with new stuff the object is keeping it cheap.

USB capture and TV devices do not seem to have this issue that I am aware of; with USB you won't have an additional heat load in your case as you do with some PCIe devices.

This is not an issue with the collection card! This is a defect in the motherboard, as I have 2 MAG B550M MORTAR WIFI hosts and 2 TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS WIFI II hosts. My data acquisition card works normally on these hosts and has been running stably for more than 2 years. However, my data acquisition card cannot be used in the 3rd and 4th positions on Tomahawk x670E WiFi. This problem has been bothering me for 4 months, and there has been no live streaming for 4 months! My collection card can even run perfectly on counterfeit motherboards, which is obviously not a problem with the collection card. I think these defects are why Tomahawk x670E WiFi motherboards are no longer produced

Hi,
I have the same issue โ€” my graphics card does not start when inserted into the PCIe 5.0 slot.
