Claw A8 BZ2EM memory running on 7500 MT/s and not 8000 MT/s

My A8 BZ2EM is currently running at 7500 MT/s memory speed.
Is anyone else experiencing the same, or is this specific to my setup?

It's reported everywhere: CPU z, Windows task manager, Bazzite system info etc.

I don’t believe that 7500 MT/s is correct for the Claw A8.

My previous RMA unit was running at 8000 MT/s, and MSI itself officially specifies the Claw A8 with 24 GB LPDDR5X-8000. This is also stated on MSI’s official product and specification pages.

Can you show me one website listed with 7500MT/s?
I can only find 8000MT/s. Please see attached file from the official MSI A8 website.

All major retailers are also listing the Claw A8 with LPDDR5X-8000.

Since my previous RMA unit was running at 8000 MT/s, I believe something has changed with the latest BIOS version E1T8KAMS.106. It appears that the memory speed may have been reduced from 8000 to 7500 MT/s with this BIOS.

Therefore, I don’t think 7500 MT/s should be considered the correct specification for the Claw A8.

I'm also a regular user, and I'd like to say that this might be related to the actual memory configuration of different Claws. I haven't found any information about 7500MHz on MSI's official website; I'm just sharing my Claw configuration information.

It would be even better if you could share a link to LPDDR5X-8000 for my reference.

Of course, I suggest you contact MSI's authorized customer service or technical staff directly to further confirm your Claw's memory configuration.

I have attached a screenshot of MSI’s official website, which clearly states that the Claw A8 is equipped with 24 GB LPDDR5X-8000.

I also received the following response from MSI Support:

“After verification, it has been confirmed that the hardware memory operating frequency of this CLAW A8 BZ2EM device is currently specified as 7500MT/s. The 8000MT/s information pertains to a previous batch of the same model. This device’s specification of 7500MT/s is normal and indicates a normal shipment, not a problem.”

I have to say that I am quite shocked by this explanation.

If MSI has changed the hardware specification from 8000 MT/s to 7500 MT/s for a later batch, this should be clearly communicated in the official product specifications and by retailers. The device is still being advertised as LPDDR5X-8000, while customers are apparently receiving units with 7500 MT/s memory.

Furthermore, my previous RMA unit was running at 8000 MT/s, which confirms that the Claw A8 has indeed been shipped with 8000 MT/s memory.

A reduction from 8000 to 7500 MT/s is approximately a 6.25% reduction in memory bandwidth, so this is not simply a cosmetic specification difference.

I therefore find it very concerning that MSI considers this a “normal shipment” while the official specifications still state LPDDR5X-8000.

And I have to remind you that LPDDR5-8000 = DDR5-4000, so the speed is not so great anyway, but for this kind of devices is ok.
In any case, I agree with you: listing 8000 instead of 7500 is not something very nice.

Thanks, I understand that LPDDR5X memory can technically support different operating speeds, but I don’t think that means there is a 7200–8000 MT/s “range” for the Claw A8 specification. MSI specifically lists the Claw A8 as 24GB LPDDR5X-8000, not 7200–8000.
 
Mine A8 has 7500mt/s too. I wrote an e-mail to German MSI Support and they Said:

"Nach Rücksprache mit Taiwan, ist es ein Fehler auf der Webseite, wird korrigiert es gibt die Modelle mit 7500MHz und bis zu 8000MHz."

So some people have luck with a little more Performance on their A8.

From my view: I don't think this can simply be described as a “website error.”
The Claw A8 was advertised and reviewed as having LPDDR5X-8000, and my previous A8 actually ran at 8000 MT/s. Now we are apparently being told that newer units can have 7500 MT/s instead.
If MSI is now using different memory configurations, then this should have been clearly communicated to customers. You cannot advertise the product as LPDDR5X-8000, or even “up to 8000 MT/s”, if 8000 MT/s is not actually delivered or guaranteed for the product being sold.
“Up to 8000” suggests that 8000 MT/s is an achievable specification of the product, not that some units receive 7500 while others receive 8000 without this being clearly disclosed.
So what actually changed? Did MSI change the memory configuration in newer production batches?
With the current situation around AI driving up memory component prices, it is difficult not to wonder whether this could be a cost-reduction measure. Of course, I cannot say that this is the reason, but if the hardware was changed from 8000 to 7500 to reduce costs, customers should be informed clearly before purchasing.
Calling the 8000 specification a “website error” does not explain why previous units actually shipped with 8000 MT/s and why newer units are now running at 7500 MT/s.
8000 MT/s is 8000 MT/s, and 7500 MT/s is 7500 MT/s. They are not the same specification.

The Dutch consumer authority (ACM) likewise states that if a product is different from what was stated on the website, it can be considered a non-conforming product.
MSI advertised the Claw A8 as LPDDR5X-8000. My previous A8 actually ran at 8000 MT/s. My replacement runs at 7500 MT/s.
So whether MSI technically uses different memory chips capable of 7200–8000 is not the main issue. If MSI wants to sell different configurations, that needs to be clearly communicated to the customer before purchase.

I already told you: they use different memory chips in the 7200-8000 speed range.
The only problem here is that they were all advertised as 8000.
But they "fixed" that now: the memory speed is not mentioned at all. :biggrin:
