Coming out of sleep with Z97M-G43 takes a very long time

First, I know I shouldn't have done this.  I have been running with v1.6 BIOS well enough for 1+ month, but when I saw that the v1.8 BIOS had improved support for the Samsung M.2 drive (which I have), I thought, I'll should upgrade in hopes of avoiding issues down the road.

Things seem fine with v1.8, except the system doesn't come out of sleep nicely anymore.  Before, when I would press a key on the keyboard, I would see the link light on my switch change nearly immediately, and within a couple of seconds, I would have video on the display and be able to proceed.  Now the sequence is very odd:
- the link light on the switch doesn't change
- the CD access light flashes
- nothing comes on the display
- after about 30 seconds, the power light on the computer case goes off
- after about 5 seconds the power light goes on, but then quickly goes off then on again
- the CD access light flashes
- the MSI logo comes on the display
- the Windows lock screen comes up in a couple seconds
- 2-3 seconds later the link light on the switch changes
- when I am finally able to log into Windows, the system is as I left it, so there was no restart

The whole process takes about 55 seconds.  It almost appears as if the system hibernates after coming out of sleep, and then comes out of hibernation.  What really surprises me though is that I was so used to seeing the network adapter become active immediately after coming out of sleep.  That doesn't happen any more.

Unfortunately I can't go back to the v1.6 BIOS since for some reason that version isn't available for download any longer.

Anyone else seen issues with coming out of sleep?

Thanks.

For grins, I cleared CMOS in case there was something different in the way the settings were set between the BIOS versions, but the behavior is still the same.

Yes, I did clear the CMOS with the power cord removed.

When I flashed the BIOS, I instructed use the version on a USB drive, but I don't recall it giving an option to update the BIOS or the BIOS + ME.  Is there a way to flash just the ME so I can ensure that is at the correct version?

Thank you.

here is .191 BIOS verison, which could help you to fix this issue

:hat tip:

I have not upgraded yet.  Is this a beta or production version?

What I have been very surprised by is that Task Scheduler has been waking the computer out of hibernation.  I thought the CPU was completely shutdown in hibernation and could only be brought out of hibernation with some hardware.  Is Task Scheduler able to wake a computer out of hibernation, or is it not really in hibernation?  The power event log messages indicate that it's coming out of state level 5.

Thank you so much!  That did correct the problem.  I'll keep a look out for the official version.  Do you have any sense for a target release date?

It's up to MSI whether and when they release a new BIOS, or not.
If all is working fine, our (all Moderators') suggestion is to leave it as it is, if it ain't broken. BIOS is the thing you don't want to break, annoying little chip that can be bricked easily but recovered very damn hardly.
