Cool N Quiet stopped working

 I figured out how to get Cool and Quiet working in my new system, and it has been fine for a month. Unlike most other posters here, I am not an overclocker or gamer, I'm running a music server. I want the processor to make as little heat as possible, which is why I chose AMD 64.

I have been using the MSI Core Center to see the results. With Cool n Quiet it has been running around 800 Mhz and at 42C, with normal operations of the CPU usually around 5 to 10%. Now it's stuck at 2015 Mhz and 55C (same 5% CPU load). I have unistalled and reinstalled both the AMD driver and Corecenter to no avail. The bios checks out that it is enabled. The only thing that has changed lately is a critical update from Windows Update that I can tell.

I can't run this system without Cool n Quiet working, as it overheats the whole case. Any help? :bonk:

My system:
Win XP Pro
MSI KT8 motherboard
1 gig ram
AMD 3200+

:p Well I figured it out! I had changed the power settings in Windows control panel from "Minimal Power Management" to another setting. I guess this disables Cool N Quiet.

That temp seems high. If you're running BIOS v1.2, try switching from Turbo to Fast (vice versa if you're using v1.1). If you're more interested in low heat, the minor loss in performance will be worth it.
