I have a Radeon R9 290 Gaming, and the fans just started to run at 100% (card was idle) and continue to do so constantly. Any ideas as to the cause?

PS: There have been no hardware or software changes.

You should check the cooler boost button first. And download/update latest BIOS and EC firmware from MSI website.

What kind of notebook do you have? I would suggest exporting system info by latest Help Desk and post them in here. Maybe someone could help check the software environment.

...uhm, I see now this is a notebook forum - ain't got that.

You could try downloading MSI Afterburner and then manually changing the settings on the fan. Even if this doesn't work, Afterburner is still quite a useful tool.
Here is a link to a download: https://www.msi.com/page/afterburner
And here is a tutorial on how to change fan settings (if it is necessary lol): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIrCBx0yxQI
