In Core Center and in the Bios, it is displaying my system temp as 50c.. now, I can tell you now that is not right. It barely moves from that range either.. if it does, itll go to like 49c or 51, but thats it. This just started happening, before it would display correctly at around 30c.

Also, its saying my computer is running at 51c..idle, and 51c under load.. so i really do not know what to think.

My case has a built in thermometer.. which is reading around 86f(30c), which is normal.

Any ideas?

As for the ram.... How much of a performance gain would I get by getting faster ram (pc3200).. Right now I have 1.3gb of pc2100, which is a lot of ram, but at a slow speed. And, whats the best to go with in the $100 range. I know how A64's are picky with the ram they use.. so I have ruled out Corsair, since so many people have problems.
My friend let me use 512mb pc3200 Xerox (???)... And when using it, my pc is highly unstable... BSOD's when doing just about anything. Id really like to get my ram issue solved as well as the temp issue.

Sapphire 9800 Pro 128mb
Enermax 350w 12v/26a

I see that you are using an Enermax 350W power supply, I just ordered one and my system specs look very similar to yours A64 3000+, Radeon 9800 Pro, 1 gig Kingmax PC-3200. How is the power supply working out for you any problems or is it running smoothly? As for a place to buy PC-3200 ram, www.newegg.com has the MSI memory approved Kingmax 512MB DDR PC-3200 for $79.00 Free shipping.

my core centre sys readings are kinda constant too .. always 42C +/- 1 0r 2 degrees ... i have no idea where the sensor is but so far ive had no heat issues so im not concerned and ignore it

as for ram ... yep u will notice a diff going to pc3200 .. benchmarks will show slight increases .. although in general the bigest diff is u will run both cpu and ram @ 200 fsb which is how its designed ... which ram is the tough question .. but if u look at the forums there are lists of what ppl are using and the configs they work with .. personally my ram is unbranded generic pc3200 and is working better than some the "big name brand" memory

Just the past day or so, I have noticed the same discrepancy with my temp. readings also. I've had my new system up for almost a week and it was idling at 32C and now it has gone up to 50C at idle. I had my bios setting at "Turbo", so I re-set it to the "Fast" setting with no change.

I then deleted and re-loaded the "Core-Center" from my MSI disk, and now it's idling again at 33C. So, I really have no idea what's up with that!

Well, when it was displaying the temps right the other day, but now... it isnt. I will reinstall and see, but i cant see that fixing it because the bios is displaying it wrong also.

Isnt Kingmax a "no name" brand of ram? But if itll work.. I will use it.

Also, I was looking at the OCZ ram newegg has.. Arent they good quality? I notice they had low timings at good prices, but how compatible is it with the A64?

Thanks

Oh yeah... as for the power supply. Its working just fine. I was having stability issues, but I know for a fact its a ram problem. So with that, I would say you are good to go with that PSU.:dance:

I have 2 of the Kingmax PC3200 512MB double sided chips in slots 1 and 2. I also bought them from newegg:

Details

I have had no memory issues. I started with one in slot 1. Then added the other a couple of weeks later in slot 2. I ran memtest86+ for 6 hours with both chips installed....no errors.. I run my system every day for about 6 hours. Very stable. Never had a system shutdown/reboot. I've played games like Return To Wolfenstein and Serious Sam 2 - very smooth, clean, and stable.

I am not overclocked. I tried overclocking my Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9800PRO based on settings an overclock site was able to obtain with stability, but I got artiifacts and stability issues with those settings so I went (ran) back to the defaults.:nono:

My system has now been on for 1 hour and these are the Core Center temps idling:
Sys Temp = 39C
CPU Temp = 37C
CPU Fan Speed = 2445 RPM (Cool & Quiet running)

Inside case temp (sensor next to Radeon 9800PRO) = 79F
Room Temp = 69F
(My case temp tends to stay +10F to room temp)

Thanks Nutty..

I might go with that ram. Your system is nearly identical to mine. I have the same case as you.. same color and all. For some reason the lights on the left side dont work. :(

What is your 3dmark 01 score? Id like to know, so i can get a ballpark figure of performace increase. Run it with drivers set on balanced, and 3dmark at default. Sorry, not trying to tell you what to do or anything, Im just itnrested to know. Thanks

some additional info ... liveupdate had a newer version of core centre for download . 1.62 .. might help wayward temps

Hi AxiOn,

Regarding the X-Dreamer II case, there is a separate tiny connector for each side of the case lights. I had the same problem at first. The connector had pulled loose. To verify the connector, you can remove the front panel by removing 4 screws, 2 on each side (midway and top) from behind the panel frame. From there you can trace the wires from the side of the case you have out.

My system

I don't have 3dmark, or I don't think I do. Is this the 3dmark you are referring to? I'll download it later and gave it a whack.

Buddy

Yeah Nutty, thats the one, same version and all. And if you dont have it installed, I dont want you to go through the hassle of downloading and installing.

As for the case lights, thanks. Before i had tried to take of the front panel, but the screw on the right side (where the mobo is screwed in) seemed impossible to get to.. did you have to remove everything in order to get to it? Im glad to hear this is a fixable problem.

Hi Tiresmoke,

My system
Actually that is where I wanted the D-Bracket. It's not on the deck. I straightened the screw mount on the bracket and have it screwed into the cases PCI card mount. I can see it clearly from where I sit.

AxiOn,

Before removing the front, check where the wires come out into the case on the right side. You may find the disconnect there. There should be three pair of twisted wires (two pair work the lights on each side, one works the temp light - can't remeber the colors) coming through the opening from the front. The connector should be there where it comes out. I just happened to have my front panel removable (screws out) for the future installation of two hard drive fans. My screws came out OK using a normal sized Stanley screw driver. It makes CDRom and floppy drive installation much, much easier.

I'll still give 3dmark a try!

Buddy

Alright, I will give that a shot.. although it still seems like it will be pretty difficult with all the parts in the way.

Is the disconnect right behind the front panel? Or is it actually in the cpu case? I can undo the screws closest to the removable side and sort of pop of the front panel half way, would I be able to reach it like that?

Alright, I got it working..

I didnt realize there was 2 power connectors for the front light... the one for the left side was under the mounting brackets and they didnt leave much slack for it. I had to get a pair of pliers just to plug it into the power connector.

Thanks a lot Nutty, you led me in the right direction, I opened the front panel half way and saw that it had a seperate cord leading into the case, followed it, and there it was. :) Thanks  :-)) :-D) :worship:

Interesting...
Live Update shows a new version of Core Center 1.6.2.0
but the download area still shows the old version.
Here is the fix list from Live Update:
1.Fix Japanese OS bitmap offset (width becomes larger).
2.Fix Cool and Quiet clock.
3.Fix fan control while CPU cool down.
4.Fix Prescott CPU Vcore "auto" unselectable.
5.Support MS-6788 v2.0 and MS-7043.

The new version of Core Center did nothing.. except display my +12V wrong now.. says its running at 11.8, I hooked up a multimeter to the 12v rail.. reads 12.12 stable.

I really dont know whats going on.. Would reseting the cmos possibly fix this problem?

I ran the 3d Marks 2001 SE on my system. I left the 3DMarks settings at their intalled default settings and ran the benchmark.

The cool and quiet update from AMD's website might be part of it. I was having trouble with mine as well then got that download and it fixed it for me

Thanks nutty,

but are you sure AA and AF are both turned off in your driver settings? I know your comp could get in the 19.3k range. Might just be drivers though. And it looks like I will need to get new ram.. im only getting in the 17.5k range.

Btw, my case is perty with all the lights working. :) Thanks again

And as for the Cool n Quiet update... I did get one off of AMDs website... Alls it seems to do is run an application in the background called "gemser.exe". Anyone know what its doing?
