Hi,

I got a MSI X58 Platinum SLI LGA with the cheap core i7. Well anyway when I put it into the motherboard I cannot close the flap and secure it in place. I will break it off if I try to force it. It seems like the cpu is sitting pretty high up and I'm pretty sure it is in there really good. To get it in place I actually have to unscrew part of the back part of the flap to get it to fit. Does anyone else have this problem? Also it runs retarded hot with the stock cooler. Idle around 60C. I got a new cooler to help out but what the hell is going on????

LOL i7 cheap there not that cheap anyways to your problem it may well be that you have got a faulty motherboard i know they take a bite more pressure on the leaver than the old 775 did. You could try take board out of case and refit the CPU in to socket. but do this on a flat firm surface on a antistatic mate or bag. Main thing is not to try fitting i7 into motherboard when in the case.

My i7 needed some force to get it into the socket but not much.  Now It could be the ways the conductors on the bottom are sitting with the CPU and motherboard.  The i7 has no pins but it has I would call them little boxes on the bottom enter and most motherboards have similar connectors.  it could be that the i7 is not sitting on those conductors right and not be set into the socket as it should.  Now most have a arrow to line them up and I believe the motherboard has to be so the socket it parallel with your body, sitting the long way. At 1st when I was installing I had to move it in and out of socket before it sank down and was okay.  Could be problem or numbers of other things.

I'd use a piece of cardboard, as Wonkanoby suggests, a plank of wood, or wooden table, or a stack of newspaper--not the anti-static bag.
