Hi, I'm another owner of a motherboard with a stuck sensor

Look, that’s fine for you, but that doesn’t mean the issue is solved, it just means you’re not triggering it.

I’ve been dealing with this for 4 months, testing multiple BIOS versions, including custom builds directly from msi engineering. I’m not guessing here.

The behavior changes depending on conditions, but the problem is still there at the telemetry/smu level. Your setup is just masking it, not fixing it.

At this point I’ve already ordered a different motherboard and I’m sending this one for RMA when it arrives, because I’m done wasting time on workarounds.

If you’re happy with your result, with a motherboard of this price tag that is needing workarounds great. Just don’t confuse that with an actual fix.

Another owner of a MAG X870E with freezing sensors checking in. Problem occurs with AVX-512 rendering workloads and sometimes gaming. Sensors monitored with HWInfo. No other hardware monitoring or RGB software running. Very clean windows 11 25H2 install.

System:
MSI X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI
AMD 9600x
32GB DDR5 6000 CL28
Dark Rock 5 Cooler
RM750x PSU
Powercolor Rx6800 Fighter

System built February 2025. Motherboard purchased directly from MSI online store.

The only thing that has relieved this issue for me is manually setting PBO PPT to 60W (60,000mW) in the bios. BIOS and drivers are all up to date. Problem also occurs in Ubuntu so it's not Windows related. It's not a temperature issue (Sensors have frozen at 58C core temp). It's not an EXPO issue (Ran RAM at 4800 JEDEC). It is a motherboard hardware defect.

You said it perfectly

Avx512 is the easiest way to reproduce the issue, as with games that consistently need to compile shaders like poe/2.

Like I said previously, been dealing with this for 4 months and even tested 2 custom bios from them.

Now I will just rma

That's an issue with the hardware monitoring. It freezes unless you keep in the app center window, or restart the MSI services (or full shut down and turn on the computer). It works until you open the MSI center app again.

No its not

Stop spreading miss info, even their engineers identified it as an smu/agesa problem. This has nothing to do with hardware monitoring.

The gift that keeps on giving. I was good for about a month with generic use and playing Borderlands4. However back to Diablo4 and Ive had it crash the temp sensors about every hour or 2.
I have HWinfo setup to play an alert since the cpu power package hits 0 when this happens. I have to reboot, relaunch the game, play for 1-2 hours, rinse and repeat.

Be smart and RMA it, its a bad batch, not a firmware issue like some ppl were talking about, after dealing with a lot of custom bios and 1 month after i rma my board and got my money back msi sent me this

Okay so I had this motherboard before and I RMA'd it and got a ROG B850-F.

I never got CPU package power issue on my new motherboard but I had some issue ever since I set it up where I would be totally fine it could be hours - days but sometimes randomly my full windows would go into a 15fps slideshow like state super laggy but if there was audio in the background when it happened the audio would be fine. Nevertheless, I was baffled because I tried everything I could think of... I ended up buying a new 4k qd-oled 240hz monitor while it was on sale and I wanted to try and sort this inconvenience out!

This is the same case and components as I had with the MSI x870 Tomahawk. This steel bar that allows you to cable manage was the culprit (MY GPU WASN'T GOING IN FLUSH WITHOUT ME REALISING!)

My bus interface load on GPU-Z was capped at x4 5.0 or x8 5.0 speed and I could never achieve x16 5.0 because the large pins on the GPU weren't making flush contact. And also the bus interface load was at idle 100%+ as oppose to when I removed the bar.

Obviously, I removed this bar and as soon as I reinserted the GPU and ran GPU-Z idle 1-2% bus interface load and x16 5.0 with no more intermitent windows stutters.

I'm posting this here because at the time I had that motherboard I did not remove this bar and didn't think to do so so if any of you here also have a bar that is making contact with your GPU make sure to remove it and check if your issue is fixed or not.

P.S. there's even a dent on the bar from the GPU pressure trying to go further in when it's being blocked by the metal bar.

Slight update, A92 didn't fix the sensor bug still, but at least it detected my PCIE card and not give 1+ minute hangs at POST, so thats a bonus.
I'm not debating to just order the same board from Amazon, swap boards. If it works, return the faulty one. If not, RMA the original back to MSI. I'm just not looking forward to having to swap and reinstall a motherboard 2-3x.
