CPU upgrade problem

i have a msi p55 cd53 board with windows 7 that currently has a i3 cpu im trying to upgrade my cpu to a i7 when i put the i7 chip in and started my pc up the monitor keyboard and mouse do not come on but the pc still does
is this a BIOS problem or what..its making me fustrated been working on this for hours
