have an MSI creator Z17 which has the original 280W power supply.
How much power is needed from the power supply on USB-C to make charging work on the thunderbolt 4 port?
I am looking for something mobile. The 280W power supply is big and heavy. I am looking for something to be able to emergency charge while on the go.
I have from another model a USB C 95W power supply but charging does not work.
Too weak? or some special standard needed?
 
Should be over 100W, according to the manual.

USBC's 140W power supply is unfortunately not up to the task. According to one point, the laptop must be turned off. That is, no docking station with PD for this laptop fits. Even at MSI I could not find anything on offer.
 
Maybe you should try to do EC reset first, and check if the type-c USB would work when plugging in that port.

So you are using a docking station to charge? MSI docking station gen 2 should work.
