Just want to share with all here my experience with the MSI RadiX AX 6600 (GRAX66) Wi-Fi Router:

First: Why did i end up sending it back to Amazon?
RANDOM DISCONNECTS! -> The router loses the internet connection to my ZTE MC888 (which is in bridge-mode) every 2-4 days. Rarely it work's a week. When i go into the Web interface via 192.168.10.1, i am able to just click the "connect" button when i click on "Internet" Symbol in the Dashboard menu. Everything works fine then until it happens again. I told the MSI team multiple times that my ZTE Router works totally fine as i did not have this problem with another router before. also i can access the ZTE via web menu, it shows internet connection and i could not find any problem here. There must be some problems with the WAN/LAN connection in general and/or the DHCP IP Assignment.

Another indicator that the MSI Firmware is just a mess: If i login to the router, the Internet connection icon shows for a short time disconnected then connected. Yeah even if this should be just a "visual" bug, what a funny joke that i have exactly a problem here with random disconnects? is that just a coincidence? I don't think so....

More problems:
-> LEDs of the Buttons can't be turned off permanently. I was told to live with it and that's not possible to turn them off permanently as the router has to turn them on on every start. seriously? if you use reboot schedule like me and you have the router on a place where the light just disturbs, you have to press everytime the "LED OFF" Button on the device. I have no understanding for that sorry. Developers should be able to implement this within 1 day, nothing happened for weeks. so you know hat support you get here.

-> (Maybe) uPNP Problems in future as the option is missing?
With my games i had no connection problems but in GTA Online it showed "Upnp disabled". The router also has no Upnp option in the firmware? But upnp is advertised on the website lol! so... expect to have maybe here some issues too in future who knows...

-> AI QoS is near between worthless i think:
I expected a much more better ping and connection but also with latest firmware which says "AI QoS has now hardware acceleration" (seriously? until then it was not using the hardware correctly or cpu cores???!) during gaming it feels like some little laggy hickups are here and there. i can't really say it's smoother and without AI QoS i feel like the games run better. But OK i have not that much devices connected. Still i think, this feature is more like a gag!

-> Wi-Fi Range isn't really that great / transmit power problem on smaller channel-widths?:
Even the TP Link AX73 had a better 5G AND 2G range. so i really ask MSI: For what the big antennas? They are not any better.
Also if i try lets say channel 100 on 5GHz and i use just 20MHz instead of 160MHz channel-width i don't get a really much better signal. normally because of the less wide channel i should get about a -9dbm better signal in this scenario but that's not the case it's maybe 2dbm better. The TP Link AX73 also scaled here MUCH more as it should and i had the 8-9dbm better signal. So something wrong with the transmitting-power adjustment? I don't know but seems so.. or are the antennas really that bad just?

All in all this was a big joke for me and biggest reason that i send it back was of course: The disconnects all the time. That just sucks.

You should really think twice getting this router for me this was just a lot of headache .

Glad to see constructive feedback for once. I've passed it down to my contact, perhaps these things can be taken into account and some resolved via FW update.

Thanks Nichrome. As i said most serious problem i had are the random internet-disconnects. and as i said everytime i click on "connect" on the internet-button "under Dashboard" the MSI router worked again so there must be definitely a problem on the RadiX router itself and it's firmware...

Your reviews shine a whole new light on this email I got a while back

DUDE I think i found what causes the disconnect issue:

I had the router set at the "2.5GB WAN Port" in the web-ui. ZTE MC888 connected to this port with cable. On the 1. LAN Port (which is also the second 1GB WAN Port / can be configured as) i had my TV connected same time.

i disconnected the TV from this port and plugged in the LAN into this 1. LAN Port / 1 GB WAN (Remember router was still in web-ui configured for using the 2.5GB WAN!)
So normally i should not have a WAN connection to the ZTE Router i think BUT the internet worked even if not setting the 1GB WAN Port.

You understand me? So if setting the WAN port to 2.5GB and having any device connected to the 1GB wan/lan port should cause this issue because the router uses then both at same time but it should just use the one which is configured in the Web-UI

Please take a look at this. i'll keep the device running next days/weeks, will update here if the disconnects are gone.

PS. Firmware-Version is: 692764

Oh wow. That's an interesting discovery. I would have imagined it should auto-negotiate and match the slowest device!
I've updated my contact about this.

i tried looking if it auto-changes in the web-interface but when i had "2.5GB WAN/LAN" Port set in the web-ui and if i then just switch the lan cable to the 1GB WAN Port, i was not able to get to the router's web-interface. Did not load the page all the time, tried like 10 minutes. But the internet worked on all my devices. So i think definitely something wrong here.

Hey Nichrome sadly i have still the disconnecting problem.. but today it was re-connecting from alone after about 1 minute.

>> Seems like something is generally wrong with the MSI router that it get's a new IP Address TOO SLOW from the ZTE MC888 which is in Bridge mode or that there is some bug?!

I have the MSI Router just set to DHCP. Can you please tell your conctact about this that i have still this issue?

I can't imagine that my ZTE device is the problem as i did not change anything since the last extra wifi-router..
only thing i can do is activate the DHCP Server on the ZTE but that normally just manages LAN devices or wifi-connected normally in Bridge-Mode it's no problem to have this off as it's not in use, or am i wrong? activated the ZTE DHCP Server and will look again but as i said i think MSI has some problem getting the new IP fast and has disconnects between.. PLEASE look into it. I'll update again if i should have again problem OR if it should be gone.

BTW. i am getting over the ZTE Router which is is bridge mode a Public-IP Address.

if you should find the bug please release firmware update ASAP it's really annoying having the disconnects every few days when new IP is assigned from ISP..

My contact is aware. But I cannot promise anything as it's out of my hands, I'm just a messenger in this case.

Yesterday on the evening i had the problem again. right after no internet was working i was looking in the MSI over web-interface.

Showed disconnected. Then i looked up and it got a new ip this time then it worked again from alone. The Disconnect was maybe for something between 30-60 seconds that time
There is definitely wrong something with the Firmware Nichrome, router takes too long to get new IP normally there shouldn't be any disconnect..

Hope your team can fix this soon.

Well it shouldn't be disconnecting in the first place. I'd return it for a refund as it's obviously not serving its purpose. Whether it's firmware or compatibility is up to MSI to figure out.

Sooo... after 8 days of running the router, again the connection drop-out. i copy paste the E-Mail i wrote to the MSI Support which i wrote to them a few minutes ago:

"
Dear MSI Support,

i tried the BETA Firmware but i had the same Problem. The router ran now for About 8 days and i thought the Problem is gone but AGAIN the MSI Radix AX6600 Router disconnected from my ZTE MC888 (Bridge mode)!

I was able to connect to the ZTE and it showed Internet working fine. ALSO The IP on the ZTE was still 178.112.128.168 where the MSI Shows „Internet disconnected“ with an red „X“ (second Image)

BUT in the Routing table the MSI Shows the IP 178.112.128.160. HOW CAN THAT BE?

Like i said the MSI Router gets somehow a wrong IP address and then no Internet is working.

I also had multiple times Problem to connect to the ZTE MC888 as the Connection totally dropped, i had to unplug both Routers.

There is definitely Nothing wrong with my ZTE Device the Problem Always occurs on the MSI router and the Internet/WAN Connection get’s lost AND I DONT KNOW WHATS THE DAMN PROBLEM REALLY…………

Can you please take a look into it? This MUST BE A FIRMWARE ISSUE!

Here the Images where you see the wrong assigned IP: (MSI AX6600 is in „DHCP“ mode, Nothing changed)

Also it makes no difference if i enable/disable DHCP on the ZTE MC888 as this affects only LAN/WLAN devices connected i had in both cases the same Connection Dropout Problem as explained Above.

Please help me MSI Team…… it’s a ridicioulous Problem really how can that be.?

Great post btw. I've ran into some of the issues with UPnP. Any ideas on whether UPnP is supported? It's in the specs but I dont' see it in the firmware.
There is NO Upnp option for the Router actual. What problems do you have? As i said in my post i wouldn't wonder if there are some problems because the function is completely missing. nobody knows is UPNP working without problems and ON or not...

By the way i still have the same internet-disconnection problems where the MSI just gets and shows a wrong IP in the routing-table. Already wrote the support again and sent them the logfile..

It's a real pain because the router normally works great but the Firmware needs REALLY an overhaul and looking out for bugs and include all features as advertised.

Your report has been a big help thanks. UPNP is broken – it doesn’t exist, the router isn’t listening on UPNP, the settings page doesn’t exist .

The bigger issue I have is some serious security issues : known CVE , broken IPV6 firewall, SSH + DNS listening on the internet . I wrote it up and created a case with MSI here

Without fixing the firewall, this fix will not be adequate. Attackers can still reach the internal LAN interface from outside.

So guys.. i am really done with this piece of........ hardware!

Yesterday i thought i configure the MSI AX6600 into "AP Mode" instead of "Router Mode". After this the router had to reboot.
After reboot i wasn't able to login to the router anymore. i made factory reset and it was still stuck in the router mode, it showed red lamp which indicates "Internet not working" but internet was somehow sitll working. But what i have from it when i'm not anymore able to login to the web interface?

Btw. after factory reset i'm just able to connect to 192.168.10.1 to create an ID/PW for router-login. After that the quick settings come. then the router reboots.
in quick settings i can't choose Router or AP mode and it's not possible to enter the advanced settings int his step.
So ok rooter reboots and no more web-interface possible.
Smartphone-App even does not anymore recognize the router in any way - still in the router's wifi of course.

Dude i just broke this damn crap with switching to AP mode, i mean wtf imagine.

I nearly RAGEd the hell out of me.

In 30 years of my lifetime i never had a router with as many bugs as the MSI's RadiX series. The Software is unbelievable big total crap sorry i have to say that it's just 100% true.

I move on with another manufacturer now.

BTW. After some months the software-engineers behind were not even able to bring an automatic "LED-OFF" function after reboot. says all man. I said multiple times it's important for me, all i get back is: Press the LED-OFF hardware button on the device. Should be able to make within 10 minutes. Thank's man!
But like i said biggest problems were the disconnects and yesterday it lost internet again. i rebooted the MSI and internet is working fine again. It just get's no new IP from the ZTE MC888 bridge mode router / DHCP must have some issues in the firmware. The ZTE is 100% NOT the problem. MSI Support says the ZTE has an issue. no lol.... it's just working fine.
