I wanted to have two dual external monitors on my GE72 6QF with Nvidia GTX970M graphics card. Plug one display into HDMI no problem, plug second display into Miniport and nothing. Reverse same problem. will work with one display in either port but not with both. Any suggestions, or does this only support one external display?

have you opened the NVIDA control panel and configured the 2 external displays there? (should be under Set up Multiple Displays)

According to the FAQ your laptop should support up to 3 displays (incl nb display) .
You can try to clean install the latest Intel and Nvidia graphics driver by ddu tool.

ok, I think the problem is the laptop is using the intel HD graphics. How do I safely get it to use the Nvidia card?

It seems to be related to a hardware defect, your DP port should connect to dGPU but not iGPU.
I suggest you send back the unit to MSI for further check.
