I know this has been an issue since bios version 1.9 for a handful of users, but can anyone shed any light on why I can?t run any of the bios updates after 1.9? Has anyone found out what causes versions after 1.9 to not load windows and just sit stuck at the windows loading screen? I just tried v. 1B3 and still no luck with booting into windows. I have gone back and forth with tech support and they seem to not have an answer.

Sounds like a new version of that old thread ;) Is it still the same that everyone with that particular problem has the X58 Chipset Revision 12 Stepping B2?

I do have Revision 13, stepping unknown (CPU Z won't show and everest trial period is over) and 1A /does/ work with my SLI card. However, for all BIOS revisions from 1.8 to 1.A I've got specific errors with two Eclipse SLI boards which MSI can't reproduce too, because they don't have X58 Revision 13 boards for testing...all they seem to have is Revision 12 boards but with unknown stepping (they also used CPU-Z).

I'm still thinking that both your and my problem are somehow specific for the X58 Chipset Revisions / Steppings we have, but haven't yet found a clue.

Yea, basically  :bonk:. It is just getting frustrating. I just tried the release that they have up on their website v 1.B and still no luck, same issue. I just sent yet another request to tech support pleading with them to address this issue. I will report back with any news  :bonk: :bonk:.

I also just am back from updating and minutes before sending my reports to tech support. Unlike the "won't start" you see, the official 1.B does work on my X58 Rev.13 board with SLI card (as did 1.A) but it's still got the same bugs: After S3 sleep RAM timing setup is ignored and values which are nowhere written are being used and QPI speed is genereally locked at 4800 even with a core i7 975EE processor. I'm pretty sure that it's something with the revisions of the X58 chipset.

Same for me , this 1b bios doesn't work on my board , everything until the 1.9 works after that no luck.
I'm tired of sending requests to MSi , i think if i want to place the six-core i need to get me a new motherboard.
A shame because this board overclocks well.

I am holding out hope  :undecided: that tech support will finally be able to address this issue .

Hmm. Strange thing....at least I found the source of my QPI problem: XMP profile setting causes QPI to be locked at 4800. Strange thing. S3 sleep still causes faulty RAM timings...but then, I'm on Rev 13.

Maybe we should attempt a different approach: if someone's with the problem (still only Rev 12/B2 chipset affected?) would photograph BIOS settings and I or someone else tries them - just to ensure that it's not also something in BIOS affecting a different part?

I wish MSI would add a way to store complete BIOS settings on memory stick or such and then allow to read those settings on another machine with the same board - might make it MUCH easier to find such problems...

Figured out my issue . It is my sound card (Creative PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatality Champion Series Sound card, model #SB0880). I removed the sound card and the system will boot with the latest bios. There has to be a change after bios 1.9 that will cause this issue with this sound card? Fix that and bios version 1.B will work. I have allready alerted tech support. Lets see if they can resolve it.

Well I guess I am stuck at bios version 1.9 if I want to stay with this board. Here is MSI's resolution  :bonk:;

Thanks for getting back to us and sorry for the late response!
Regarding your concern, we have performed a simulated test but could not duplicate your issue. It could install the win 7 64 bit operation system normally. The following system configurations are for your reference:
MB:7520-010
CPU:I7 965
VGA: N295GTX-M2D1792(912-V801-681)
RAM: OCZ DDR3 1600MHz 2GB (OCZ3X1600LV2G) 1pcs
BIOS:V1.B
OS:Win 7 64bit
Audio Card: MSI PCI X-Fi Xtreme Auio MSI Edition

We are deeply sorry that we do not own a Creative PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatality Champion Series Sound card at hand to duplicate your issue.
Would you kindly please flash your bios back to V1.9 to tackle the issue?
Thanks for your great support in advance!

Best wishes & sincere regards,
MSI Technical Support Team!

Concerning the different audio cards, I could imagine that one of those does require more BIOS resources. I once had an Asus board for AMD CPUs where I could not stick ANY controller card in: Each of them (SCSI and IDE controller cards) would create crashes. Asus then told me that the BIOS itself would not have enough RAM to operate such cards. When the next Asus board failed me early and never received a BIOS update to enable specific features, I switched to MSI (after using Asus boards for a VERY long time). Would have returned that board, if missing advertised product features would have been illegal back then AND the shop where I bought it still in existence. Well, at least that store got what they deserved ;)

However, if it's not the resources of the different audio card, I also see that you are using all RAM slots filled while they did only test with a single RAM stick! As a result, I do wonder whether you could get your system to run with that sound card and new BIOS revisions when you only use one RAM stick. If yes, it might help to finally track down the issue - and that could be an easy thing to test.

Have you also tried with BIOS 1C Beta 2?

That one solves at least some of my troubles: XMP Profile no longer disables QPI speed setting and S3 sleep did always cause bad RAM timings, now it's only happening with XMP Profile enabled...

I just received the link late yesterday and will give it a try shortly. Im keeping my fingers crossed and will report back...
