I got a core i7 940 running at 4084MHz , my memory is corsair XMS3 1333MHz and its running at 1420MHz at 1.5v ;Bios 1.4B3
177.6x23=4084MHz , with turbo.
177.6x22=3907MHz , no turbo.
CPU voltage +0.15
Qpi voltage +0.18
Memory multiplier at 4 and uncore multiplier at 9.
Very stable overclock , and great temps , first a had bios 1.2 , but this was not stable .
MSI send me bios 1.4B3 and for me it's super.
Overclocking is searching and searching especially with ram , it's possible that you never get the speed that corsair says , and it's got nothing to do with the motherboard , it's up to you to try and find the max of your system , that's the fun of O.C.
First you need to find the max BCLK and put the other multipliers to a minimum.
Than you need to play around with the multiplier of the memory and the uncore , but for the uncore multiplier you need a newer bios than 1.2 , because in that bios you can not change the uncore multiplier.
The uncore multiplier must always be minimum 2 times the value of the DDR multiplier. ( memory 4 = uncore minimum 8)
I hope this will help you a little bit.
Note that when you leave the QPI voltage on auto it will go up by itself when you overclock., this you can see with the overclocking software of msi in windows , the QPI voltage will show +0.15 or 0.18.
Every where i read that default QPI voltage is 1.10v ( asus , evga , intel)
I read in a article that with the 965 the QPI must be the same as the CPU voltage because off the higher base QPI speed (6.4 GT/s)
So when you oc CPU to 1.4v you need to put QPI to 1.4 with the 965 or lower the QPI multiplier to 4.8GT/s in bios and than you don't need to changes you voltage of QPI that much ( default QPI voltage 965 =1.22=default CPU voltage)
My QPI speed is normally 4.8, but now 6.4 GT/s=3200MHz due to the overclock , it all goes up with the base clock , for the 920 and 940 it's a fact that the QPI speed max 4000MHz is=7.2GT/s (stable?)
The speeds you can read with CPU-z and intel processor ID utility.
