Eclipse not posting - DLED - BLANK!

Hi there

I hope someone can help me. I have built my new machine and did the first switch on and there is power to everything it seems but I am unable to get any post beep or anything showing on the DLED. The Spec is the following:

Eclipse Sli X58
Core i7 920
3GB OCZ DDR3 PC3 12800 Triple Channel Kit
Leadtek 8700GT TDH
Seagate Barracuda Drive
Hiper Type R PSU

The one thing that concerns me is the CPU power socket. My PSU is modular and I cannot see a lead which has the 8 'pins' on it to plug into that socket. I have plenty of the 6 pin variety though. Are these enough or do I need a new power supply?? I have tried everything else in terms of memory being taken out etc but I still get nothing out of the DLED. The other LEDs light up in what seems to be an ok fashion. Am I missing something??

Can anybody help - It's driving me nuts!!

Hi inspector007, & welcome to the forum. Could you provide a link to your PSU's information data page? The main board has an 8 pin connector, & the GPU may have an 8 pin connector, but the 'CPU power socket' statement has me confused.

Does your PSU have a 4 pin board connector? If so, & your PSU is adequate to power your setup, just leave the plastic cover over the unused side of the socket, & plug the 4 pin into the socket closest toward the CPU.

The CPU power socket I was referring to is the 'JPWR2' socket which is an 8pin socket and is referred to in the manual as 12V ATX Power connector - This power connector is used to provide power to the CPU.

The PSU I was using did work in my old machine fine but it was only a AMD socket 939 and by the looks of it these i7's are a bit more power hungry (understatement!). I am also running 4 HDD's in total so in your opinion would I be better getting a new PSU?

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Gotcha! That's what I thot you meant, but wanted to make sure. Thanks for the link. I tried to see a visual showing of all the bundled connectors, but couldn't find one. It does talk about the 20-24 pin MoBo connector tho. Did you buy this brand new & it may have just been shorted the 8 pin cable? It should have came with at least the 4 pin to connect to the 'JPWR2'. If neither an 8 or 4 pin, a new PSU is essential. You have to get the correct power to that 'JPWR2'.

It may be worth considering a single rail +12V PSU. A corsair TX750 or TX850 would be a good chioce. I like my Thermaltake even tho it is a quad rail, but it's pretty big to get enough amps per rail. It is modular tho, which I like alot.

Anyway, before you try to power it up again, make sure the mem. sticks are in the right slots (Black). Try booting with just 1 stick of mem. in slot #2 (AO), add the rest later after stable with 1. This board has different mem. slot population rules than most boards. Slots #2, #4, & #6, (AO), (BO), & (CO) for triple channel.

I have just bitten the bullet anyway and ordered this:

http://www.corsair.com/products/hx/default.aspx - I know it's not massive power but I had to consider the budget having already spent a fortune!! Having read Toms Hardware guide the newer version of my existing PSU would have been ideal but this one was the second choice. Money always has the final say!!!!

I would have gone for the corsair....they are 1 of the best PSUs around...altho I would get a single rail like HU16E said.

That hipergroup looks like a very bad PSU....4 12v rails at 18a is very underpowered...your current PSU at least has a 12v rail w/20a...as I see it this would almost be a step backwards.

And at newegg they are charging $134.99 for that hipergroup PSU  You could get 2 Corsair vx450s or just 1 tx850 for that price 

I am fairly sure that a vx550 would be enough power for ya....+ its alot cheaper than your choice

Well, I got the Hiper and have got further than I did last night!!

BUT

All I am getting to is the DrMOS page, I am pressing delete to get to the BIOS and all it does is the Memory check to say that there is 3GB on board and then stops. The DLED is not showing any errors, it stops at the MSI logo and goes no further.

What the hell is happening? What am I missing??

Can someone please point me in the right direction.

Try with just one mem. stick in slot #2 (AO) as previously suggested. Add the others later when all is checked out & stable.
