Eclipse Sli - Not going to BIOS

Hi there

I was hoping that someone out there could help me! I have just finished building a new machine and decided to go the MSI route as opposed to the ASUS route (regretting that already!) Anyway, having finally managing to get past the machine not booting at all I have got to a stage where I cannot get into the BIOS and get no further than the memory check. The spec is the following:

Eclipse Sli
Intel Core i7 920
3GB OCZ Gold Series Triple Channel
Leadtek 7800 GT TDH PCi Express
Soundblaster Fatal1ty PCI
Hiper Type R II PSU

I have disconnected the Soundblaster and all the memory seems to be recognised because thats as far as I get - confirmation that there is 3GB on board. Is there anything else that I am missing or should be doing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What kind of memory modules are you using?  Can you provide a link to the OCZ Product site?

Please test with one memory module only and clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU.

Done as suggested but no change apart from 1024 showing on Memory check.

Are there any other ideas out there??

Is my memory correct for the board??

Your memory modules are actually not very suitable as they are factory overclocked DDR2-1333 or even factory overclocked DDR2-1066 memory modules.  If you can, try a stick of "real" DDR2-1066 memory and see if that changes anything.

I presume you mean DDR3. I was told they would be ok. What would you recommend as an alternative to what I have then?? Needless to say I don't have any DDR3 lying about!!

I'm positive J.T.N. just made a 'typo' error. When you tested with just the 1 mem. stick, did you have it in (Black) slot #2 (AO)? This board has a little bit different population rules than many of us are used to.

After looking at your link, yours look like pretty good sticks. They will probably show up as 1333 when you get it up & runnin'. If not, try DRAM Clock 1333, Mem. Ratio 5X, Timings 9 9 9 24 @ 1.65V. (Try with just the 1 stick in slot #2 first).

Hi HU16E

Hope you are well. This is the problem - I cannot get into the BIOS at all now. After the splash screen comes up and I press enter the screen goes as far as stating how much memory I have got and then stops! I cannot get into the BIOS to change anything. I have unplugged and re-plugged in everything and still nothing. I have done the power calculator on the site and it recommends mnimum of 455watt - the new PSU is rated at a constant 680watt so that should be ok. I have just booted with CPU, Memory and graphics card - still no change. I was going to try booting with no memory at all but with the DLED I can't - it stays at DDR ini!

I have never had a computer beat me before but this is certainly giving it a good shot! It's not a good first time experience with MSI i am afraid.

Is there anything else I can try that I may be overlooking??

Soon as the 'Splash Screen' comes up, was that a typo or are you hitting the 'Enter' key instead of the 'Delete' key to get into bios? Do you have the D-LED2 Panel installed? As I don't have my Eclipse built yet, I can't try to duplicate the symptoms. As knowledge is still a bit on short supply for this new technology, it might not be a bad idea to contact MSI Tech. Support for some assistance. I'm going to dig a little deeper & do some more research as to what might be causing this too. If that wasn't a typo, hit the 'Delete' key.

Hi there

No, i have definitely hit the 'delete' key, now more times than ever!! I have installed the D-LED2 Panel and it is not coming up with any errors at all, it seems to be going through the correct motions of DDR ini right through to the MSI display, no errors come up at all - which isn't good in my opinion! I have contacted MSI Tech and have followed there recommendations twice. They have suggested contacting the retailer now which I have done and I am hopefully receiving a new board tomorrow! It seems like the concensus of opinion is that the board is faulty. Before the screen freezes it does show up that it has detected the CPU telling me what it is etc and then it has detected the memory and whether it is running at Single, Dual or triple channel and then it freezes. All these symptoms to me point at the board itself, what do you think??

I have the same issue; just purchased 3x1GB Crucial DDR3 RAM and the system refuses to proceed beyond identifying how much memory is installed. There are two, short chirps indicating an error with the memory. I thought the memory was bad and purchased another 3GB - same Crucial kit PN - but received the same error. The MB will not post with one stick in either slot 0 or slot 2.

BTW, purchased MB, CPU, and memory from Mwave as an integrated and tested bundle. They noted BIOS as V1.1 11-07-08.

Just how many amps do you guys have on your 12v rail?  I'm considering the eclipse plus when it comes out but hearing of these kinds of troubles doesn't exactly inspire confidence.  I just went through problems on a p7n diamond and don't want to repeat my experience.

I am not over-clocking. Everything runs at stock speed.
I have no other RAM to try.
Moving the video card to another slot, as someone suggested in a different thread, did not work.
PSU is 500W.
Switching to a lower power GPU did not work.
Disconnecting all possible power consumers, including video card, does not work.

Two, short beeps after POST, checking video, and stating RAM quantity are all I get.

As I recall, this motherboard uses award bios? If so, 2 short beeps (If it's award and *IF* they followed their standard bios
outputs) usually indicates it doesn't like something about the vid card?

btw... www.bioscentral.com is a nice place.

Video card investigation over the weekend
ATI X700 - pass POST, pass video card, count RAM, Eclipse spash screen, two short beeps, hit delete to enter BIOS = hang
NVIDIA 9800 GT - pass POST, pass video card, count RAM, Eclipse spash screen, two short beeps, hit delete to enter BIOS = hang
no gpu  - pass POST, VGA ini. (on included LED board), memory ini. (on included LED board), two short beeps = hang

No response yet from MSI.

Thanks to all who have posted on this thread with help and advice. :biggthumbsup:  :worship:

New motherboard came on Monday evening. Built on Tuesday evening, switched on with eyes closed and.................EUREKA!!! We have lift off!! ;D ;D Manged to get into BIOS and select the DVD drive etc. I went for XP Pro x64 for the moment and it has installed flawlessly. Only problem I am getting at the moment is trying to find the drivers for the SM Bus as I am getting the yellow triangle on device manager. Don't suppose anybody has any ideas, there doesn't seem to be anything on the driver disk.

Should I upgrade the BIOS? Are there any marked improvements over the pre installed (can't tell you version at moment as I at work!) If I do whats the best way of doing it. Is the Live Update thing still a recipe for disaster??

How's yours getting on bdhuf?

You have the latest Intel INF Drivers for X58 Chipsets installed ?
