HI

I have an eclipse, with a 850w psu ati 4870 and 2gb geil ddr3
problem is all the led's are on, so are the fans but i only and always get a black screen
my tech and i are baffled
is there a specific memory list to this board
any suggestions.
everything comes on except no display,
please someone help
thanks

cont from my previous answer

now that i remember neither the module nor the led at the end of the wire were lit

does this help

thanks

quite simple

mobo: MSI eclipse (bought last month)
cpu: i7 2.66
video: ati 4870
memory: 2GB G.Skill DDR3-1066 PC3-8500 7-7-7-18  (bought sept 08)
fan: zalman9700
sometimes there are 3 long beeps
sometimes there's nothing
on reset the board does shut down and restarts and that's ALL the info i have

and that's it
no point for hdd or operating systems
the bios never gets beyond a black screen
hope this helps

have you tried the button "CLEAR CMOS" ?

I don't have the manual here, what is the meaning for three long beeps ? Memory ,VGA etc ? This could help a lot.

yes i did try to clear cmos switch in back of the box
nothing
according to this

Cause: he

Computer RAM (memory) related issue.

but then why de dled woun't at least blink at all
is the small pimple at the end supposed to be planted on something for the module to work. don't get it
manual says use a tape to stick the thermistor on heat sink or other heated component
it doesn't say that that's a precondition for the d-led2 to work, which it didn't and the thermistor wasn't stuck onto anything.

are you sure the DLED is mounted properly ? I know it seems dumb but the second time I've plugged in it didn't work because the pins were misaligned, but it didn't fry it's still working.

The two pins at the side is only for the temperature sensor. I haven't plugged it so it shouldn't be an issue.

Well have you got another different DDR3 module or processor ? It's much to ask I know to have it spare but part from inverting these crucial components it seems that the only solution left is RMA  and you still won't be sure that it's the board.

I don't know if you have multiple modules of RAM for 2GB. Have you tried each one alone ? What leds on your board are lit up ?

Oh and one last thing... Has someone touched the dip switch on the board that allows you to change BCLK frequency ? Be sure that they are set to default as told in the manual. It's maybe as simple as that - it doesn't boot because it tries too high frequency. Hope it helps

Is your board the Eclipse SLI or the new 'Plus'. In your component list, the PSU isn't mentioned. Is it a single +12V rail unit, & what are the amps on the rail(s). Are the power connectors to the board & VGA card secure. Try clearing CMOS (with the power cord removed), 1 mem. stick in the A0 (black) DIMM slot, & test. Once in the bios, be sure to set 'Spread Spectrum' in 'Cell Menu' to disabled.

It's the standard sli

the psu is fine 850w pretty solid - it even comes with 8 and 24 pins and 2 pcie for the 4870
i haven't tried with one memory, i'll do that
i will also reset the overclock switch, perhaps my memory is slower than the one the seller used (definitely)
all the rest was checked, cpu pins, vga replaced, board is tight and all led's on, including the memory (blue led on)
also cpu led's on and all plugged card led's on
i guess i should stare at the pretty led's instead of working with the computer, perhaps i'll use the board
as xmas decoration, by the time i'm done it'll probably time for that
thanks guys i am overwhelmed by you and underwhelmed by the "new and improved" electronics,

We will do our best to help you get your system 'up & runnin'.

Yes, the boards base clock switch should be set to the 133 'default' setting for initial setup.

Henry

sorry if i don't understand your message -
i thought i provided just about everything that i know of about all the parts
the only thing that my tech keeps insisting is that the memory i have is funky
and i may need another type, very possible
i contacted msi i they gave me the standard check up list, which i/we (the tech and I) had
already done, the tech couldn't get his hands on ddr3 to test so i am searching
again thanks

Exlaval,

He wants you to create a signature like his. Go into profile (button up top), then click Forum Profile Information on the left side, and then scroll down to "Signature" and enter your computers information. Include part #'s of Memory and PSU and type i7 920 @ 2.66GHz in there.

guys all the data i gave is from memory  -  the pc is at the shop
i am trying to get some ideas to help my tech
i am hoping to buy either of the memories listed below - but now with the questionable memory sticks i have i am just not sure anymore as to which
will work with the eclipse -
can someone tell me for sure which of these will definitely work in the eclipse, i hate to buy buy buy until i hit the right one
thanks guys

Patriot "Viper" DDR3 Memory! -8GB (8192mb)-  4 x 2048MB (4 x 2GB) - 1600MHz - (7 - 7 - 7 - 20)  1.9v - PVS34G1600LLK

or

Crucial Ballistix 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600)

or

KINGSTON KVR1333D3N8K2/2G DDR3 Memory 4x1Gb Sticks

DDR3 1.9v? Look for a set of 3X1G or 3X2G 'i7' compatible 1.5-1.65v mem. modules (PC3-10600's or PC3-12800's).
