Hi everyone, when my MSI laptop is plugged into an external monitor the CPU usage for explorer.exe is 22% and power usage is high, is that normal? Cheers.

usually the external Display is connected to the Dedicated GPU so puts alot more load on the System where the Laptop Screen is connected to the IGPU in the CPU.

So it's not normal then ?
depends what its doing in the Background. usually CPU usage should be around 6-15% but that is at 2560 x 1440 resolution of external Screen so what is your screens Resolution as that is more important and what are you doing on that screen?

think its Chrome that is doing it as its hitting Explorer to access disk Space so i would look at that as Chrome is well known for being a Resource hog.
