EZ debug CPU led with MSI X570-A PRO

Hello there,

I built myself a new desktop following a recommended configuration I found online but when everything is in place and after pressing the power button, the PC doesn't start.
Fans from the tower, GPU and CPU cooler are running but nothing on the screen and the 'CPU' labelled LED from the EZ debug is bright with its ominous red.
All CPU power plugs are in place, I tried different cable configuration, I always get the 'CPU' signal from the EZ debug.
I tried to unplug everything except the CPU and motherboard but still nothing works.
I looked at the CPU pins and none are missing or bent.
I doubled checked online that the computer parts arec compatible and everything seems right.

Here is the configuration:
Motherboard: MSI X570-A PRO (Socket AM4)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Ventus 2X OC V1 (LHR)
Power: Corsair RM650
SSD: Crucial P2 CT1000P2SSD8 SSD 1To
HDD: Seagate BarraCuda, 2 To
CPU fan: be quiet! Dark Rock Slim 12 cm
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16Go (2x8Go) DDR4 3200MHz C16 XMP 2.0
Tower: NZXT H510
Wifi card: ASUS PCE-AC58BT

Do you think of something which could cause this problem that I haven't tried?
Otherwise it would mean that the CPU or motherboard is broken. Which one do you think would be most likely to be causing the problem and thus need to be replaced?

The 5600G requires BIOS 7C37vHE to be supported on that board. Your board most likely comes with a slightly older BIOS than that.

Update to 7C37vHE using the Flash BIOS Button. Download BIOS: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/X570-A-PRO/support#support-main-block-download
Specifically the HE, not the HF (the AGESA 1.0.5.0 used in vHF is buggy).

Updating BIOS with Flash BIOS Button
1. Please download the latest BIOS file that matches your motherboard model from the MSI® website.
2. Rename the BIOS file to MSI.ROM, and save it to the root of your USB flash drive. FAT32 formatting is a must.
3. Connect the power supply to CPU_PWR1 and ATX_PWR1. (No need to install CPU and memory.)
4. Plug the USB flash drive that contains the MSI.ROM file into the Flash BIOS Port on the rear I/O panel.
5. Press the Flash BIOS Button to flash BIOS, and the LED starts flashing.
6. The LED will be turned off when the process is completed.


The board can be quite picky about which USB sticks it accepts, so try several. FAT32 formatting is a must.
I've seen people try four or five USB sticks before it finally worked.

Thanks for your advice. Indeed, I hadn't thought of the BIOS.
I updated the BIOS with the latest version (7C37vHF) with everything unplugged except the two power cables and a FAT32 USB stick.
The procedure went fine with the motherboard restarting and the flash Bios LED stopped blinking at the end.
Unfortunately, when reinstalling all the components, the CPU LED of EZ debug stays on. Do you think I should have tried with 7C37vHE?
Or maybe the BIOS wasn't the only issue.
I'm also unsure of the CPU power cables. On the MSI X570-A PRO, there are two plugs, one for a x6 pins and one for a x4 pins CPU connector. I plugged both but maybe only one was necessary for this processor type. I couldn't find a precise response in the instruction manual.

Will it post if you remove the gpu and use the APU for Display and yes use BIOS 7C37vHE for now the other one is a buggy mess and in process of being replaced with luck once done 1.2.0.5 will be bined never to be seen again

By the way, because I'm a bit lazy, is it necessary to unplug everything when doing the flash BIOS update procedure?

No I do it will a fully built system just make sure it is shutdown mind I have done a flashback from windows by mistake once and it worked.

7C37vHE didn't changed the problem. The CPU light is still on. By the way, I realised it stays on even during the BIOS update process, if ever it gives any clue on the problem.
So your second advice is to plug the screen on the motherboard with no CPU inside, right?

No remover the GPU connect to the Motherboard VGA ports as you have the 5600G it has GPU in it

I'm not 100% convinced it really went fine. Usually, it has to flash for about 5 minutes. If it flashes way shorter or way longer, it was not successful. And several people had to try with several different USB sticks before it finally worked and they suddenly had a successful boot.

I haven't measured time, I will try again with different USB sticks to see if it changes something. Thanks for the advice

Some directions for you if you need them



FOR BIOS FLASHBACK

Following Directions are for windows based OS

Right Click on the Downloaded Bios Zip File, select properties if you see the message this file is blocked by windows tick the box to unblock and click OK.

When in windows File Explorer make sure that you select the View tab and Tick the box Show Hidden Files and File Name Extensions.

Extract the BIOS file from the Downloaded ZIP file Open the folder it was extracted to.

Right click on the BIOS file, select copy and then paste it into a USB drive Formatted to FAT32,

When in Windows File Explorer make sure that you select the View Tab and Tick the box Show Hidden Files and File Name Extension.

Now rename the BIOS file to MSI.ROM

There should be no other files or folders on the USB drive, just the BIOS file you have renamed to MSI.ROM


FlashBack can be used on a fully assembled PC even if CPU is one of the new 5xxx series.

PC must be turned off for BIOS Flashback to be started do not turn on your PC the Bios Flashback will do it for you




Plug the USB Drive in to the USB port just below the Bios Button,

Do not touch any Jumpers on the Motherboard

Push the FlashBack button and then release it,

About 5 seconds later a led just above the USB port will start to flash, after 15 seconds of so the speed of the flashing light will double this is the writing to the BIOS period.

Once done writing to the it will stop flashing and PSU will turn off

For 16MB BIOS it will take about 4 to 5 minutes, and flashing stops.

For 32MB BIOS it will take 6 to 7 minutes, and flashing stops.

People have said that it may turn back on if so just turn off and unplug the PSU.

And Bios should be flashed.

Failed BIOS flashback is one of three way

One- it never stops flashing
Two- Solid LED no flash and stays on till you power of PC
Three- it flashes four of 5 times and then stops


Successful it will flash for about 15 to 20 seconds it will then it will start flash quicker for 4 to 6 minutes and then turn off.

But I still have the CPU error signal from the motherboard. Do you think I should remove the BIOS battery like in the video?

No is looking like you may have gotten a dud CPU the G series APU seem to be somewhat more prone to failing out of the box than the Normal CPU models.

I will get in touch with AMD support to see if they have a way to solve this or to exchange the CPU.
Anyway, thank you so much for your help and if an other idea crosses your mind about a potential fix, don't hesitate

I got similar problem - CPU LED glows red light. Want to share my solution and some info that helped me.

1. Despite motherboard shows red light only for CPU LED, check your RAM sticks. For me the problem was that I haven't pushed one of the RAM stick to its end, stick hasn't clicked. So always check both ends of stick's slot, they click when inserted to the end properly.

2. At boot CPU LED will light up red - as I understand that's the normal sequence motherboard needs to walkthrough before the LED turns off. So don't panic, don't shutdown your PC yet, wait 5 seconds.

3. If your CPU has no integrated graphics, you gain nothing by connecting HDMI cable to your motherboard HDMI-port - there will be no image on your monitor. You need connect cable exactly to your graphics card, not the motherboard.

i also had a similar problem, for me - the issue was that i hade pushed the RAM sticks too far down into the motherboard.

Instead, i had to push the RAM sticks veeery gently so that i heard a faint *click* on the up, or "static" side. (the top side don't have any locking mechanisms)
Then, after that faint click, i pressed the bottom part until i heard a click and the locking mechanisms locked the RAM-stick in place.
Then it worked for me!

In summary, don't push the RAM sticks too far. just so that you hear the click sound at *both* ends.
