You just jump in and get your feet wet. Play solo and not against other players for a while. You'll probably want to get a controller. There are options but I use and can recommend the Xbox 360 controller for Windows. You can get the real Microsoft one or any of a myriad of knockoffs. I have a Microsoft one and one sold by Gamestop. They both work equally well.
