I have had my system for a few months now and have been very happy with one exception. Trying to install the driver for my graphics card has not been a pleasant one. To begin with I could install from the CD that came with the system. When I inserted it the display that came up did not have options for install. I tried to install from windows and when it search the disk it told me that the drivers there were not compatible with windows and it did not recommend I install them. I went into both NVIDA and MSI to load drivers from these sites and still get the same warning. My last effort was a Microsoft site. This appeared to load the drivers, but not without problems. Under my display properties screen I do not have the option to ?extend my windows desktop onto this monitor?, which should show up in the bottom left corner. Also when I click on the tabs ?MSI information? and ?MSI clock? I get a problem message and the window closes itself. The biggest problem is under the advanced window. The twin view tab is missing. Also when I go to the panel to select my output device I cannot select the option TV. Can you please help on fixing my driver problems?

RAM DDR-333 PC2700 512 MB

Monitor ? KDS 19? .27

Windows XP Pro

RW,

So you are using a SiS 645 with onboard audio and lan, and a P4. Do you have any other PCI cards or any USB Connections?

Did you try the reference drivers to make sure the card is running properly in WinXP?

Richard

Hi Richard,

I have tried the drivers from Nvidia and MSI so far. The latest one I am using is from Nvidia. I am not using any other PCI cards or USB connections at this time. With the current drive I can TV out, but because it doesn't twin view I loose my monitor each time it select TV.

Hi Richard,

The TV Tool utility did work for me right away. This tells me that everything is set up correctly and my problem is with the driver. So I will go with this for now and send you many thanks. It does seem like a real back door way of solving the problem and at some point down the road I hope a proper driver is put out there that will work properly. I am really disappointed that I must resort to a Nvidia driver and the MSI ones did not work. I find it hard to believe that I would be the only one to encounter this problem. When I sent an email to MSI I didn't even get a response from them. Once again thank you for helping me out.

Bob,

I wanted you to go to the Reference Drivers so we would have a place to start from. At least we know your Computer Hardware is setup properly and is working.

We can work on the Drivers now should you want to.

Take Care,

Richard

Bob,

I do hope someone from the forum jumps in since I am not using any MSI Video Cards to test out their drivers and features.

If no one does come in and answer I will go to MSI for you.

Take Care,

Richard

Hi Richard,

I notice nothing new has been posted concerning my problem. If you are able could you question MSI on on this one for me.

Thanks

Bob

Bob,

Since we last tried troubleshooting, nVidia released a new set of drivers, the Detonator 4's.

I would like to give it one more shot with the 40.41 drivers from the nVidia website.

Then if we cannot get it resolved then I will be happy to pass it one to MSI for you.

Richard

Hi Richard,

I did load this new driver and it gave me the same warning that it was not Windows XP certified, but I loaded it anyway. It looks nice, but I still do not have the option to twin view. I can select to go out to the TV, but loose my monitor in the process.

Bob

Bob,

Tv out is not twinview. They are seperate issues. the GeForce Chip by design from nVidia is to turn off the monitor when using Tv Out.

I should have looked. You card is not a Dual Head Card. You have the choice of VGA out, TV out, DVI out. If you had two VGA outs you would have twin view or two DVI outs you would also have twinview.

Take Care,

Richard

Hi Richard,

Well I guess that is that. I thank you for your help. When I picked out the components for my computer the GeForce cards were recommended to me. People told me to go for either a G3 or G4 card. I selected the G3 for price reasons, but at the time did not know there were differences like this within the same type of card. I just assumed they all perfomed this function. This was a hard learned lesson.

Thanks for the help.

Bob
