i have a BIG problem when ever i try to play a game (even the games that came with the card NOLF) my pc will freeze and i'll get strange screeching noises coming from my speakers i've tried up dating the cards drivers and freeing up irqs but can't get it to work the only thing i can think of doing is updating my motherboards bios (don't want to).

My specs are:

Windows 98se
ECS Elitegroup KS75A motherboard
300watt power supply
AMD900mhz
192mb SDRam
Internal 56k modem
Creative Sound Blaster 5.1

if u need any more info tell me!!

Zenislev,

If you are running SB Live! make sure that it is on a PCI Slot that does not share its IRQ and that it is set to IRQ 5. That is optimal for SB Live!.

There is one more thing, the 300W Power Supply might not be enough for your system when playing games and both the Power Hungry Athlon and GeForce 4 under load.

Good Luck,

Richard

but the geforce 4 uses irq 5 (and i only have one agp)
what do u recommmend to free up my psu, unplug everything except my geforce and see what happens? or should i put a big pentium 4 psu in instead?

Zenislev,

The AGP should be around IRQ 10 or 11. That is where they usually fall. Do you have your motherboard setup as a Plug and Play OS?

You might need to free up some IRQs, reassign them and then make sure you have a SBLive! on IRQ 5 and unshared.

Richard

Zenislev,

Is your motherboard the ECS Elitegroup KS75A or the ECS Elitegroup KS7A5?

You need to go into the BIOS Set Plug and Play OS to YES and go to the PCI Slots and assign the IRQs you want each one to use.
