Guy's, have a new build on the GD-85 with a single WD black sata III HD. On the marvell controller post screen it shows the drive running as SATA II. The drive is connected to the white MB SATA connecters, using the MSI supplied
SATA cable, no jumpers on the drive. HD tuner shows the HD running as SATA II in win 7.All drivers are loaded in win 7 and the device manager shows all controllers. I'm missing something in the BIOS to get this HD into SATA III mode,
what is it that I'm missing?

Dayum, you guy's are fast. Forgot BIOS v1.3, SATA III connecters are the white ones, correct? Tried both white connecters.

WD WD1002FAEX, already checked WD site for settings, no jumper should have it running in SATA III mode, at least thats how I see it.

Yup, cleared it after changing some settings and not posting, that was on the 1.1v BIOS, have since loaded 1.3v. no change.

Let me ask you this, does the HD need a SATA III cable to work? I've checked the net and it's like 50/50. some say no it's BS, others say SATA III won't work with out it. The HD doesn't show that it's connected to a port in the BIOS,
only under boot devices does it show. After the post it shows in the marvell post. running sata II 3.0g/s.

That's normal.  The Marvell Chipset counts as a secondary/add-on controller that had its own firmware.  That is why stuff doesn't show up in BIOS Setup (as opposed to the stuff connected to the Intel SATA Controller (primary controller).

As far as I know it does not really matter.  But perhaps it does not hurt to try a "dedicated" SATA-III Cable to see what happens then.

Ok, cleared BIOS, unplugged, hit power  button, reset, loaded defaults, something, SATA II.
Figured that, being a secondardy controller with it's own bios, I'll have ta try the sata cable, bout outta ideas here.

Well when you do properties on device in the device manage isn't listed operation mode?
Or check it with Everest: http://www.lavalys.com/sites/default/files/releases/everestultimate550.exe

How many red ones do you have?  Look closely at each cable.  There should be specifications information printed onto them.

I just found the following document on this site: http://www.sata-io.org/developers/technical_library.asp

http://www.sata-io.org/documents/SATA-6Gbs-Fast-Just-Got-Faster.pdf

Page 4:

The same cables and connectors used for current SATA implementations can be
used to connect SATA 6Gb/s devices. SATA-IO recommends utilizing quality
components to ensure data integrity and robust operation at the fast 6Gb/s transfer rate.
Cables already at the threshold of 3Gb/s operating margins may experience lower
performance than expected at 6Gb/s due to an increased number of resends.

Not sure if this has to do anything with you issue but it still makes me scratch my head.

Ok, I'll check em and if that doesn't work I'll get a SATA III cable. Gentle thank you for all your help, I'll post back
with what I find later, I'm a go'in fish'in.
