My problems are twofold. First, my number and function keys go lights out when a game starts. While I was trying to sort that out, I made a copy of the Dragon Shield lighting profile and tried to modify it. When that didn’t work I deleted the profile copy. The next time went into the steelseries software, the original Dragon Shield profile was gone.
How do I get the original profile restored without the headache of resetting the whole laptop?
And how do I get the number keys and function keys to stay lit when I game?

Try re-installing the SSE software again?
The profile should be able to restore afterward.

Thank you. So now I'm left with the one problem of the Function and Number keys not staying lit. I thought it had something to do with the Prismsync software but it seems to be random luck that gets them to light up.

I would exclude the software and see if those keys have faulty LEDs, like trying to enter the BIOS menu or safe mode.

Go to Dragon Center > Gaming mode, and disable mystic light for all the games.
Then go to SteelSeries Engine /GG > APPS, disable all the app sync.
