Hi there, I've bought this notebook last year in May and played games such as Dark Souls 3 and The Witcher 3 pretty smoothly on 30~ fps on high settings, sometimes without even having to turn the turbo fan on. Fastforward a year and the laptop gets hot just being idle and doing nothing and getting really hot during gaming. The Witcher 3 will stutter every few seconds with the turbo fan on, on lowest settings, and even lower resolution. Tried Rise of the Tomb Raider today and with everything as low as it can be, it is still unplayable. I know this isn't the greatest laptop but I really thought it could do better than this? And the fact that it used to handle games pretty well when I first bought it but a few months later it just kept getting worse and worse.

Also I've tried so many things to help with power management settings, playing around with ingame settings, updating drivers, making sure the games using the GTX 970M, cleaning the fans out. I just feel like there's no other step for me to take but to apply for repair service and see if there is something actually wrong with my notebook because the suggestions I received from MSI support didn't solve the issue. Does anyone else have any other ideas what could be causing this problem?

Here's the system info using the Help Desk. I've checked other similar notebook models with the same graphics card running these games on high quality with 30+ fps... really disappointing that on lowest graphics i'll get about 20 which then drops to below 10 every few seconds.

Try the nvidia driver from the MSI website.  I know its old but that might be the problem.  If the old driver fixes your problem then windows 10 will automatically update it again.  If this happens then just goto device manager and rollback driver.

I've tried the old driver and the issue still persists. I've also updated the firmware and BIOS but nothing. My last resort is to use the "Reset this pc" function and see if that works, but if not I will have to apply for repair service I guess.

I tried using the old MSI driver, and it stuttered less, but there were still times when it did, and I had the game in windowed mode with Dragon Gaming Center at the side to check the CPU and dGPU. What I found was that whenever the game stuttered and had fps loss every few seconds, the GPU would go from 90+% to 10~%, and then back up. The CPU would also jump a bit during those moments but not as much, going from 60~% during non stutter to 80~% during the fps drops. Is there a way to stop the GPU from dropping usage like that and keep it at above 90%? With the old MSI driver I managed to have the game running on high quality with around 30 fps, but there were occasionaly frequent fps drops and stutters.
