GE76 CPU 12th Gen Temperatures

ok your situation isnt normal :/

I've bumped my TDP back to default from 35-50W and this is what I've got
I do have dGPU on now, I've had msHybrid on before, but the cpu fans were a bit weird today so switched
In USA and EU, repastinf won't void warranty, but any damage caused by repastinf it will void the warranty.

Let's say, I did repasting but the laptop did not boot anymore bec of something I did wrong. In this case yes it will void the warranty.
But if it worked as it was, they do not have the right to void my warranty, bec this is called maintaining.

Thanks for checking my video and testing

are you sure about this? can this be confirmed somehow? because I've ordered myself the Honeywell paste and tempted to repaste but heard opening the laptop is ok, but repasting voids the warranty and I am in europe

yes, sorry to see it, definitely something wrong with such spikes on some random vidoes, although I do have to say that Intels 12gen temperatures are annoying, they should really put way more work into its thermals, maybe learn from apple m1 or nvidia

btw what do you use your laptop for? if you're not gaming perhaps macbook would be a better option?

You are right, I will check with local service here to let them apply the thermal paste instead of me, even if I would have to pay.

I'm a game developer and 3d artist, I got the 380Ti version, that's all I need at work. Imagine based on the current laptop condition, the laptop throttle to 2.7ghz all core when I compile something or render something.

Just super disappointed.

Also I notice that the LED bar has different color than the Keyboard light, like if I set both the same color, the LED bar has less saturation which make me feel is that just me or everyone has the same problem.

I mean, if there's proof that we can repaste ourselves then sure I'd love to see it, but since I got like 23 months of warranty left I'd rather not void it, also I've heard that only MSI can repaste to not void, but again needs confirmation

Right, so you do have to have a decent gpu and macbook wont be suitable for you, if I were you I'd get the full refund off amazon and maybe think about asus scar 17/razer blade 17 or a replacement, it was just unlucky to get a bad batch one...

at default tdp mine throttles to 70W which ends up being around 3.3-3.5ghz, its quite funny really because on idle XTU shows pretty much constant speed of around 4ghz

here's mine, seems pretty same..

I'm not sure what are you talking about!

MSI Support confirmed this is not normal! and I'm on RMA process

from what i can see something is using CPU alot . Why is the core speed 4,1ghz all the time from surfing? Mine does never go that high if not gaming.

win11 have a widget bug that draws CPU. Or maybe something else is using to much resources?

or you are using a power plan not allowing it to throttle? Try balanced, performance keeps the CPU at 100% minimum.

What is your cpu freq and heat when you do benchmark?

When you stress your cpu, heat, watt and freq, how are they?
Original tdp same as you. Peaks @ 100c but if i set the intel specced TDP of 45w i get short peaks of 94c but often highest under 90c. Avg temp when gaming is keeping the CPU at 72-75c in most games.

i run the performance-mode so for the gpu to get 150w the cpu can only have 45w Max anyway.

Edit: i have locked the CPU to not go over 4,1ghz no mather Nr of cores in use. I dont need short bursts of 4,7 or whatever. Cant see a point to having it?

I did in the bios to set the turbo boost to 42, but for some reason, it ignores the settings.

Or I would appreciate if you could share a screenshot of your bios settings since throttles top are no longer supported in latest bios nor xtu

Enter bios / advanced bios

1st enable overclock feature

2 enter power & performance menu, enter CPU power management control, scroll to bottom and enter ”cpu lock configuration” and make ”overclock lock” (disabled)

go back one step and scroll up and enter ”view/configure turbo options” Then enter ”turbo ratio limit options” scroll down and change all the ”numcore” values to 0 (zero)

etc numcore0, numcore1, numcore2-7 all should be value zero ”0”

save, restart and Open throttlestop:)

This works. I have new bios :)

after this FIVR is enabled in throttlestop

Did all of that,I could limit the cores in the Throttle stop, but the undervolting not working withing throttle stop as it not shown in monitoring data

I've limited my CPU Freq to 3.8, that cut the spike to 85degree instead of 100C , but the spikes stay the same

When I do benchmakr, the CPU throttle to 2.7GHz all cores on 45Watt.

I'm crying:D
Yours throttle at 70W .mine throttle at 45 Watt 😂

do you game on it or what do you do?
Play some games and try. Focus on the actuall performance and not Numbers and see :)

I'm game developer and 3D artist, so basically, when I do compile or render, all threads are full, and thus the throttle, but while gaming, I tested and All cores are stable on 38Ghz, which is fine for me, max temp is 85 , but I didnt buy a laptop with 5K to get similar performance of single core as i7 6700HQ the one I used to have before this one:D , yeah sure more threads, but the performance on load as everyone reported mostly around 75Watt on full loading, mine cant survive on 45Watt, so there is a problem for sure

i have a MSI GP66 with a i7 10750h (6-core) and a 3080 (125w) and this GE76 12-gen i7 with a 3070ti totally blows it out of the water in game performance. Then its a 1080p laptop and this a 1440p. Fps is still higher in every game.

the GP66 behaves the same out of the box. Temps around 97c. Undervolted and set the core speed to 3,8 and voila, Max temp 75c.

so its not just this laptop behaving like this. Every one ive seen runs the same temps stock.

my friend have the legion 7 with 5900hx and 3080 @ 165w. He have high temps. 90+ CPU and gpu around 80-82.

in my small experience the msi run really cool compared to others. My gpu stay at 74c Max on 150w and 71c Max on 125w.

i have done alot of testing. The best setting for games is performance-mode and cpu pl1/pl2 on 45w. When the CPU needs more and you give it say, 65w then the gpu gets less. The fps gets lower this way even if the CPU is lowering its clock. This is like this in every game i tested.

ive done extensive testing for hours and in every case i get the same results.

games tested: Diablo 3, Shadow warrior 3, God of war, dying light 2, Shadow of the Tomb Raider

i play mostly gpu intensive games. So maybe it differs in other games.

but as long you are in performance-mode the gpu use 150w and its only 45w left for the cpu. In balanced the gpu use 125w so cpu gets another 25w=70w max when the gpu uses its full 125w.

this is how it works exactly and how all my tests showed. :)

I would like to have the ability to change fans in the balanced just like in the performance mode. Because not all games need Max power. But the lack of control makes me run performance-mode all out.

So thats a total of 195 watts ??? Then you say CPU gets another 25 watts in balanced mode and it gets it from reducing GPU power??
So what your saying is changing from performance to balanced the power system cuts 25 watts from the GPU and gives that 25 watts to the CPU?
When did MSI change how that works? You get a power cut on BOTH CPU and GPU in balanced. If CPU power up is demanded while on balanced it will up to performance level till request is terminated and the same way with the GPU.

Go to Power Plan in Control Panel-Balanced or Performance (try either for results). Click: Change Plan Settings (upper right) - Click: Change Advanced Power Settings (lower left). Scroll to Processor Max and Minimum States.
Figure it out eh!

Well. If i have pl1/pl2 set to lets say 65/70w and in in performance mode. I get 150w gpu and 45w to CPU. In most games, it can shift some, but most of the time its 150/45

if i switch to balanced i get 125w + 70w. If the game requires it ofc. But never over 125w gpu. This mode Also lowers fans and dont give you the option for fan curves. So it always runs hotter like this is games.

i dont know what the power-cut is from the original 110-135w or whatever it is in balanced. But its not really balanced at all in my opinion.

do you use throttlestop? for me it never autostarts with windows despite following a yt tutorial to use the task scheduler :(
