Hello
I bought a geforce 4 ti 4200 and for the most part I'm happy, I guess. Well u see I gave my older geforce 2 mx to a friend obviously because it to out dated for my gaming needs, but the geforce 4 ti 4200 isn't really improving that much. I really hope there is some sort of fault in my product because I've read reviews on the net and I know my system isn't like there's but still my frame rate im getting in games is sad compared to what my friends getting with his older pc. Before I go any further I'll tell you a basic system spec for both mine and my friends machine
My PC: amd athlon 1 ghz, 512ram, NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200
My Friends PC: PIII 800mhz, 128 ram, NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 100/200
I did a benchmark of frames per second I get in some games (all on the same detail as my friends pc) mostly the lowest, which I shouldnt have to do since I have a "good card"
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3:
My avg: 45 fps
My Friends avg:54
Obviously there is something wrong here.
Americas Army: Operations
My PC: avg 22fps
Friends PC: avg 22fps
Lowest detail settings possible(tell me there's something wrong here the new unreal tournament better not run like this).
GTA3
My PC: avg 50fps
My Friends: avg 23fps
Now that's a bit more believable.
Now I have the latest detonators that are certified by nvidia and everything else is up to date. We both have no background apps running.I'm confused can u figure out why im getting very poor performance. Is it cooling, should I go pick up a heat sink fan. I checked into this on some message boards and some people said my mother board is getting flooded by the video card since it's so fast and that's why I notice no speed increase or decrease when I change my video settings as well as notice a very low speed, since the mother board is to slow to keep up. By the way both of our pc's are not over clocked.
Another problem I had was with the nview, i want to play a game on one monitor and have say a walkthrough in notepad on another monitor...how can this be done(if it can be). Does the game need any sort of compatability with it, im lost here. If someone could please give me directions on how to do this i would apprieciate it.

im gonna try the gf4 on my bros p4 1.6ghz and run a benchmark then cry when i see the results ;( but im not too worried seing as asa the new nforce 2 come out ill have one and im positive that will kick a$$, right.

well i guess this is good news, but confusing news at that...i re did a benchmark after a few adjustments(literally i kicked my pc, no joke) and got a score of 4860 aposed to 3684...help, there is something wrong with my pc.

this would be even more funny if i werent joking

4860 seems about right for your rig, even with a Gf4. Check through benchmark posts etc. What settings did you change?
What scores did you get with Gf2?
I was on 5200 when first started benching. Miner upgrades(heat, Bios's, drivers), and some overclocking I started getting better scores.
Still try on your Brothers puter, (he should get envious and keep the card... LOL) to make sure it does work properly. I think it should.
The nforce should be a major injection boost for you. Good allrounder. Do you plan on CPU upgrade as well?
Check around the net though and see what others have said about nforce and your card. You may find a MoBo that is more suited to ur card.

Until then(sep) play ur games with AA disabled and Anistropic at Bilinear.....

ok well heres another wierd one, i get the same fps on games as my gf2 BUT my benchmark is way diff:
GF4: 4860
GF2: 1700
Go figure... and yea id like to test it on my bros pc but no hes a $%#@ing arse hole, one of those people who doesnt know enough on the subject so they just reject the thought. He thinks itll void the warrenty on his dell... so baisically im screwed over untill the nforce 2(which probbly wont happen because i cant afford it cause i dont have a job and im 15, plus canaidan dollars r gonna make this hell forzen over.) can you believe the gf 4 ti 4600 its like 700 in storesw/o tax. so i dont wanna dream about an nforce 2. i would think an nforce would be the most compatible with my vid caard because they're both by nvidia(u would think that). so im gonna ponje tech support and hear them tell me to buy a new mobo, then get real angry, ect...

games like Unreal Tournament rely more on CPU / RAM so even I get the same FPS as I did with Gf2. But you should have graphics up the next level. UT I play at 800X600 for multiplayer and 1024X768 for single.
Vcync is off for you is it. and for UT you have to enable Vsync in UT system for Vsync to be off. Works opposite for some reason.
Do you play opengl games. These games should give better indication of faster Fps. I use MDK2 or Quake3 to test fastest Fps. For d3d graphics, 3dmark2001 is best for testing d3d. And your increase is good between Gf2 and Gf4. Bout what you should expect.

That money thing is a pain though. I work and still can't afford upgrades when I want. :O :O

And as for your Broth, he is probabley right about the Dell warranty thing.

hahah ok this is weird i play ut in opengl on 1600x900 and i cant seem to drop below 60 with vsync...strange(of coarse im not one to care if its 60 or 100 i dont see a diff in fact i dont hink the eye can see a diff. maybe it just some games that are not working well with my card because my tony hawk 3 works fine, it could be better i only get like 40 fps and its not very ontense compared to ut 2k3 ut(1) is fine the way it is, gta3 is fine but i cant see the text, only after i reformatted this happend, but my main prob is for my favorite game americas army operations(which uses the new unreal technology) and i think its a hint of bad things with ut 2k3...i did dl the beta(but got rid of it) and saw very very unstable fps. like one time id play 60 fps and start crying because the beauty then next time it was 20 fps. so mayb its the enginebut i know im not getting the performance outta my pc as i should. hell im gonna buy a new mobo asap(wont be a nforce 2 tho because i want to have dinner for the enxt year).

LOL
I didn't even know UT could go upto 1600X1200. Just tried and found on Agony with 10bots i could avg about 50fps. I don't use Opengl but at 1600X1200 the game was smoother than 800X600 though framerate was lower.
Always been d3d, now I will play around with Opengl.
Looks so much better at higher res.

Americas army should be an indication of UT2003 (i hope not either) as it is really just a mod. A good mod though.

Hi there :))

Solution to poor gf4 performance with ALi chipset mobo :

1)Download and install the newest Rivatuner, available
(download here http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner)

2) Download the latest nvidia WHQL Certified drivers. (I have not tried this for drivers before 29.xx, so I do not know if Rivatuner has fixed this for these versions.)

3) Open up Rivatuner, and go to the "power user" page.
Go to the System line (not System Advanced), expand it, then scroll down to EnableAliAGP. Right click it, click the lighted bulb, save the changes, and reboot.

This clue I got from www.guru3d.com forum (thank to Mcdeth for that solution)

ok i didnt find your line in the power user>system(i didnt c a sys advanced to go into) BUT i found something else that was wierd when i start where it says detonator XP detected i click customize then click on the lil pic of a vid card the goto the compatibility tab then the last option nforce/amd/rcc/via/intel/micron/ALI/sis compatibility and i enabled it but it did jackall(after i restarted)...do u thnk theres a reson the line in the system line wasnt there?

ok well i messed with some settings and somehow got ur system and systewm adv menu,i enabled aliagp(i think , it didnt ask me to restart but did) i dont really think it worked i think this is one of those very easilty done but impossible for me to figure this out things. i right clicked on the option then hit thte flashing light, then hit apply... i noticed there was a check mark that u could hit next to the option, what that do?

Sorry, I don't have clue ?( . Cause I don't have ALi chipset mobo, it's imposible to me to install ALi AGP driver.
And fyi, don't click any options on compability mode (except you really-really had trouble if your running in AGP mode), cause your VGA will run in PCI mode.

Oh yes, did u enable FSAA ? If you did, try to disable. And running again 3Dmark2001.
