GeForce 4 TI4600VTD stability

I have just bought this card and it seemed to work OK on first installation. However trying to run the bundled games of Aquanox, NOLF, Sacrifice and Quake3, Unreal.... the games would either not load or return to the desktop halfway through ! ! X(

I thought there might be an incompatability between the mobo (Jetway867AS) and the graphics, so I replaced it with the MSI KT3 Ultra ARU hoping this would solve the problem.......

Nope same thing happens ! !

I have now discovered that by reducing the DAC clock on the graphics card to below 621MHz it seems to run everything. Increasing the clock up to 626MHz kills the games.

Any ideas anyone ? ?(

You mean the memory clock :)) The DAC runs at 350MHz and can't be changed by the user.

The fact that lowering the clock helps is a good indicator that you either have an underpowered PSU or a heat problem from poor case cooling.

What model of PSU are you using and what is the entire configuration?

Does opening the side of the case help?

Hi,

Here's the system info below.

It does run warm but I can get errors in 'NV4_disp' on first booting. It also corrupts the graphics of the error reporting window. Opening the side of the case doesn't seem to improve things although its difficult to tell as when the system works it will run for hours without a problem.

I've tried using the MSI supplied "3D!Turbo Experience" software but it doesn't report the fan speed or the temperature for some reason. Two important things to monitor on the card especially if your over-clocking it ! !

The GPU, Memory I/O and Memory Core voltage indicators are all at 90%. If its a PSU problem can I increase the voltage on the AGP port in the BIOS ?

Sorry forgot to add that bit. It was in the first attempt at replying but for some reason I keep getting the 'not logged on' message when posting.

PSU is 300W overall, max loading on 3.3v/5v is 165W. Reading other posts this may be my problem. Does it have to be 180W min for a Geforce4 ?

It depends on the entire system, the GF4 itself uses something like 40w or so.

200w sounds more like it for your system.

I have tried a 550W PSU, 285W on the combined 3.3v/5v lines, and I still have the same stability problems.

I have now returned the card to the supplier as I believe that it may be faulty.

I'll let you know
