yes but 1440p is LOWER than 2160p !! It doesn't even handle 2560x1440p @60Hz and it's lower than 4K.
I thought that it could have been able to handle a higher refresh rate when a lower resolution was set.
Have you checked the FAQ?
4K > 30hz
1080p > 60hz,
That's it. It's the limitation, and you have to accept it as I do.
If you need a higher resolution with a high refresh rate, then go to buy a high-end gaming laptop like GE series.

msi service is telling me that this pc has the HDMI directly wired to the iGPU and not the dGPU and it's limited to 4K @30Hz: can't have any higher refresh rate at lower resolution. the only available is 1080p @60Hz.
Sad story.
It sounds to me like misinformation but that's it. It doesn't make any sense to provide a gaming PC with such dGPU and not letting users taking advantage of it. They should state clearly that the HDMI is only wired to the iGPU.

I want to thank you all for your contributes!

Not actually.

My brother has an HP Pavilion gaming laptop with the same identical dgpu (and it costs less than my msi laptop) and it's wired to HDMI in fact he can easily handle 1440p @100Hz with an external monitor. Not talking about games (1440p @60Hz in-game) but desktop apps smoothly run. THIS makes sense: providing a laptop with a discrete GPU and letting users take full advantage of it.

It's not a fact of cheap GPU.

Yes, I know which GPUs are better than others but this is not a fact of cheapness. In fact, as I said, most of the laptops with an even cheap GPU let you take full advantage of it (wiring them with HDMI).

This is a design choice. But it doesn't low the cost of pc so I wonder why this choice?? (My laptop doesn't cost less than a PC with the same identical GPU wired to HDMI.)

I do agree that 1050 and 1650 are budget GPUs, BUT my GL62M 7RDX with a 1050 can via mDP 4k@60hz, same as my GE72, just saying...I must admit I prefer my GE72 6QF with a 970m for lengthy gaming on external screen with better FPS results.
My GS65 9SD with a 1660Ti, surpassed in ANY game the FPS count, by 10% or more, compared to my P65 8RF with a 1070, that has now been replaced by a P65 9SE with a 2060.
But my shiny new GE66 10SFS with a 2070 SUPER is by far my favourite now, for gaming with headphones, will have to try it with external some day...

Well they always have to add better specs and innovations to entice us in replacing our laptops...in my case, I'm good for the next 3-4 years now!

the really big tv's have 8K now

so now they have to make everything 8K lol

even phones are coming with 8K cameras

kinda silly

they should make the fps higher instead

any smart pc gamer would rather have 1K at 240fps then 8K at 30fps

8K and 4K ray tracing and these things are more photogenic

but high fps is better for motion, things that are moving like games and sports
1080P and 1440P will be the thing for at least a good part of this decade, because laptops are reaching their thermal capacity with the actual type of CPU & GPU we use.
Desktop might be going more in the direction of 4K in the years to come, but I can live with 1080P or 1440P easily.

laptops are stuck at 1K 60 for a long time and will be for awhile longer

4k, or 144hz or rtx, etc.. is all too hot for laptops

but 1k 60 is good enough anyway
