I get error on each system boot up, show error GPT header missing/corrupt , press F1 go to Bio, storage settings. This occur after update to firmware A.60.

I check each hard drive, found no error. Tried rebuilt mbr. still not solve.

Running MPG Pro Z690-A and this happened to me with latest BIOS update
These settings fixed it. Thank you!!!

Set "Boot Sector Recovery Policy" to "Manual Recovery"
Set "Next Boot Recovery Control" to "Skip"

Updated MSI PRO Z690-A WiFi DDR4 from b0 to c0 this morning and hit the same issue. Did not try the recovery steps, as I fortunately still had the USB card with b0 and could downgrade. That fixed the problem for me.
MSI - PLEASE remove c0 until you have fixed this issue. We don't all have another PC from which we can determine that c0 is bad.

This is workaround! :bonk:
Where is that setting under? Is it in the bios or windows we
It's in BIOS, and which board you have?
or see if your board's bios is listed here.

Or try the latest BIOS on MSI site if your board receive an update lately. Not sure if it has the fix yet, finger cross!

Thank you! I found the settings and changed as described and now it works. I have a z790 Carbon wifi.

On PRO Z690-A WIFI DDR4 the 7D25v1D (2023-07-13) BIOS appears to fix the GPT problem, but at the cost of losing drives. Initial symptoms were a message from Windows 11 that there was an issue with the page file which I have on a dedicated drive. Disk management failed to show the drive (P), as well as a few others:

After restoring 7D25v1B (2023-04-07), Disk management is back to seeing all my drives:

The three disks that go missing under the new BIOS are on two drives plugged into a Startech PEXSAT34 4-port PCIe controller. The two remaining ports are taken up by two CD burners. I did not check, but imagine they go missing, too.

Do you have problem when the drive is directly plugged into the motherboard (no adapter in between?) What are those drives? brand/model?

I do not have available ports on the MoBo, that is why they are on the adapter, where they have been since 2012.
Drives are Samsung 830 SSDs.

well it's about checking whether it's the compatibility problem between adapter and new BIOS or SSD.
any chance you can swap the port around?

As I said, I do not have available ports on the MoBo. Nor do I have any open slots.
The drives have been on that adapter and in the same slot on the motherboard from the start. The only problem I have ever had was also a BIOS issue with BIOS update 7D25v11 released on December 13, 2021, that I also had to back off and wait for an updated BIOS.
Common sense ( I am a retired Advisory Software Engineer) says the problem should be simple for the BIOS writer to track down with the information I have provided.

I have the MSI MPG Z690 Edge WiFi (MS-7D31) DDR5 and just updated the BIOS to version "H.C0" using MSI Center. I think that corresponds to "7D31vHC" on their website (https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-Z690-EDGE-WIFI/support).

They weren't kidding about the warning of not updating the BIOS if everything is stable, lol. Anyway, I got the GPT header error as well and used the workaround suggested here, which fixed the problem for now.

I was just wondering if the problem was introduced by the previous BIOS version, since I skipped that version (I updated from the one before the previous version), and on MSI's download page, it lists "Modify Secure Boot setting" on update "7D31vHB".

What do these settings even do?

Set "Boot Sector Recovery Policy" to "Manual Recovery"
Set "Next Boot Recovery Control" to "Skip"

Any chance a future BIOS update will fix the issue or will I have to reinstall windows?

I just had the same problem. I tried boot sector recovery policy=manual and next=skip, but it kept giving the GPT header missing error until I disconnected an external 9TB backup disk. But that's my main backup disk, so not being able to bootup with it is pretty annoying. I upgraded the BIOS to "PRO Z690 Wifi (MS-7D25)".

I just plugged the external backup disk into another USB port, and now the PC boots normally.

On PRO Z690-A WIFI DDR4 the 7D25v1E (2023-09-12) BIOS has the same issue I first reported in 7D25v1D, which I see is no longer available. The only BIOS I am able to use is 7D25v1B (2023-04-07) .
MSI: When will this be fixed?
