Hey guys,

I just purchased some Gskill Ripjaw ram from newegg 9-9-9-9-24 @ 1.5v

I am using all 6 dimm slots (2gb each) for a total of 12gb.
The post messages only tell me i have 8gb installed, but when I go into the bios and hit F5 it tells me all 6 slots are used.
Also using CPUZ it detects 12gb but windows 7 64bit only tells me 8....

Anyone else have this issue?
Here is a link to my memory

Thanks guys,
Kenny

Update to bios version 1.3 if it doesn't have it. If the problem persists, then other approaches to resolve it can be tried. May be best to flash with only one stick RAM in the primary black dimm slot. Use the forum USB flasher. Make sure the system is stock/default & stable prior to a flash.

Let me rephrase that.  Cpuz tells me I had six 2gb sticks installed but only tells me 8 gb..... bios. Setting I'm not selecting correctly?

I was running 1.3 prior to this with no issues.  I just flashed to that beta bios posted on here and it is stll the same issue

When I say no issues I mean before ram upgrade.  I had 4gb of corsair ram.  It recognized all 4gb.  Now it recohnizes all 6 dimm slos as being used but only tells me I have 8gb when infact should be 12

Just out of curiosity, why not a purchase of a 3X4GB Triple Channel kit?

Since the system only had 2 sticks RAM before the new additions, several possibilities exist. The last set of dimm slots are faulty, one kit of the new RAM is faulty, the CPU needs a reseat, the CPU socket has bent or broken pins, the CPU pads are not making good contact with the pins.

well these were pretty cheap and had great reviews
the system had four 1gb sticks in before the upgrade.
i guess i will try each stick individually in each dimm.

why does the memory tool in the bios (f5) show all 6 dimms occupied and correct?

Not really sure, but that may rule out the dimm slots as faulty. It would then point to a possible CPU, CPU contact with the pins, or a socket problem.

problem solved.  i actually pulled all the ram and put it right back in, just switching them around.
bios as well as windows recognizes all 12gb of ram
currently have my i7 950 running at 4.2ghz, 200x21 at stock voltage.
ram is currently at 9-9-9-24, 1.5 at 1600mhz.
im going to try and up the ram to around 1750 and see if the timings will drop.  thanks for your help

current core temp on idle is 35c and with prime95 at 100% load for an hour it reached 68c

not too shabby

 Good job! Next time a similar problem is posted, that can be added to the troubleshooting recommended steps. Any chance you can post a CPUID CPU-Z screenshot of the Memory Tab?

Heres what happened guys, and this needs to be posted on all computer forums and on newegg as a disclaimer with all ram modules;
you can not mix and match multiple dual channel kits to make a triple channel setup or any multi channel setup for that matter.
IF you want 8gig dual channel kit you buy the kit labelled as dual channel8gb(2x4gb or 4x2gb[newegg calls this quad channel its not its dual]).

Lets say you did that tho and bought multiple dual channel kits and are tryin to set up a triple channel set up well heres where youll run into problems with the ram working with each other, this is why you buy the predone kits because they bin the ram and make super all the modules are compatible with one another. The ones that are working together are also only operating on single channel."

Theres nothing wrong with Gskill  or corsair or crucial ram you bought. the only bad ram, really, is OCZ.
So now be sure to spread this knowledge guys so you dont end up spending blood, sweat, tears, and more money than you originally intended.

edit PS: the other mistake people make when they buy the correct kit and its say 4gb+ is they forget to opt for the correct 64 bit OS, so make sure youve got the right OS before u hit that buy button
:emot-tip-wink:
