2. This baloney about the machine drawing the battery down 10% just to boot up is just that baloney.

I only stated that it uses a lot of power to startup, especially is a lot of things are auto started, as a machine has to work very hard to get a desktop.
The amount depends on the state of the battery and the level of being charged.
