Hi,

I got this laptop about 2 weeks ago and LiveUpdate5 will NOT install.  I've downloaded it several times and it just hangs on install.  So, I read that I don't really need that anyhow.  But now I cannot figure out how to use the System Control Manager!!

What is this System Control Manager??  I read on the forums that it lets you control the Webcam; and other buttons on the top of the laptop, and other system features.  I see it running in the Sys Tray, but when I double click on it I get nothing, no window, error, user interface, or any kind of response.  If I right-click I get a menu with only 'About' and 'Exit'.  So, it seems that the utilities from MSI just suck wind....

So, I tried to do a search for utilities online at MSI Download Center here.  When I enter 'System Control Manager' I get 0 (ZERO) results.  If I search for just System, or just Control I get more results, but no System Control Manager....

So, I look on my Drivers & Utilities CD that came with the laptop and there is NO System Control Manager!!!!!!!!!!!  WTF!!

I would like to use this program since I am using this laptop on my TV with a wireless keyboard/mouse and the lid is closed.  I am not able to just reach out and press the buttons.  I would like to control it all remotely.  But these MSI utilities are useless....  Their software doesn't even work on their own hardware!!!

You're right, System Control Manager (SCM) on MSI notebooks has no visible user interface, because it works in the background, and there is nothing to configure.

Hmm, I read this post by Bas and Svet that said it lets you control those buttons and other things via a software interface.  So, from what you are saying that must be wrong.

So, it just makes those buttons functional?  If I Exit the SCM and stop it from running, will those buttons stop functioning??

SCM functionality can be differ depend of notebook model.

If I Exit the SCM and stop it from running, will those buttons stop functioning??

You can try it if you want to check what will works and what not without SCM for your notebook
