Hello, and I hope Svet can help, but I first need to ask: I have a GT72 Dominator with a MS-1781 motherboard with the i7-5700hq CPU. I am trying to make it work with a GTX 1070 card, for which I get no video output on the notebook's screen. I am hoping a custom EC firmware update is all that is needed to make it work.
Now, this is a NEW post because this is a different MoBo and a different GTX 1070 than the ones in a post I made last year.
In the meantime, I am either using a GTX 970m which works OK, or the integrated graphics.
My computer originally came with the i7-4720hq CPU, with the same MoBo (probably an earlier revision of the MS-1781). The card works with the older MS-1781, but that MoBo seems to be damaged and I'm getting the same exact video malfunctions with both the 970m and 1070 when I'm in Windows, so that's why I bought the one with the i7-5700hq. I am hypothesizing it is a EC issue, because in the UEFI/BIOS I can see the dedicated GPU is identified differently with the two MoBos -- it appears as eDP1 with the 4720hq CPU MoBo, and as DP8 with the 5700hq MoBo when using the 970m (I can't see what it says with the 1070). I know Windows recognizes the 1070 after I log in blind because it appears as a "Generic Display Adapter" in the hidden devices in Device Manager when I log in with a different GPU.
Some months ago I started a technical discussion thread where I explain in more detail the issues I'm having, but it remains unresolved: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/problem-with-mxm-gpu-on-gt72.381978/
Now, I can buy a used refurbished MS-1781 MoBo with the i7-4720hq CPU on eBay, but that is a bit on the pricey side. If this could be fixed with a custom firmware, I think I would prefer it. Otherwise I'll buy the MoBo and hope it works with it, but that will likely leave me penniless for a while, and if it doesn't work I'd be completely out of luck.
Anyway, sorry for the long post, but I felt I needed to explain a few things.
