Greetings fellow MSI owners,

I have a GT72 that I purchased two years ago whose right hinge casing started snapping when I open the lid and once again when I close the lid. Upon closer examination, it appears the hinge casing splits open though it's easy to snap it back in place... but not fully. I suspect the dreaded hinge separation is afoot.

Now - I purchased the laptop in March of 2015 and technically, the warranty expired a few days ago (ordered on the 17th, shipped on the 18th, delivered on the 21st). MSI tech support claimed the wty expired on December 16th of 2016 since I have an invoice with the proper date on it - how likely are they to tell me to pound sand? Has anyone else experienced this kind of a situation with such a close warranty end date?

I know this can be fixed by drilling and what not but... a $2,600 laptop should not require that kind of abuse...

I have - and the plot thickens a bit.

I bought the laptop from Amazon through Xotic PC. I bought it in March 2015 however MSI claims the laptops warranty expired on December 2016 meaning the laptop was probably sold to Xotic around that frame 2014. It appears MSI will be playing hardball and will good-will anything since I am a few days out of warranty and I have not registered the laptop (that's my bad).

Thankfully, I did purchase the laptop using my Amazon Visa card and get an extra year of warranty - so I'll just go with that route.
