Hi,

I bought a B550 Tomahawk MOBO for my complete new PC with no OS installed yet and my GTX 770 TwinFrozer wont let me boot because there is not GOP support detected.

Are you able to give me new firmware for the 770 which has GOP/UEFI support? I don't want to install windows in Legacy mode.

770 S/N: 602-V282-20SB1305076152

I am guessing there is no way to flash this without a display? My Ryzen 5 doesn't have an igpu ofc :( (first time buyer of AMD and regretting already haha)

Thanks, Dallas.

Has to be for the same model you have or you risk bricking the card.

Do NOT use anything from 3rd parties such as techpowerup. There is a specific version for each batch of cards.
Also GTX7xx series does support UEFI as it uses a hybrid VBIOS so should at least POST and give video.
See https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/vbios-information.340458/
Thanks Nichrome, I was tempted to get one from techpowerup but might give it a miss.
It looks like that thread has been closed and just has a link to contact MSI.
I contacted them a couple of days ago and they said "the latest BIOS doesn't support UEFI. But are you saying I should still be able to get into the Boot menu to enable Legacy mode?

I haven't installed Win10 yet, if I install it with the system in Legacy mode will this alter the installation of Windows? I don't have a super clear understanding of UEFI, so I will probably make a fool of myself talking about it... from googling it looks like it is the new standard and has better security than BIOS.
So I would prefer to set it up with UEFI and just have an exception for the GPU to run in Legacy mode. Is this possible? Or does the whole system have to be in legacy mode? Does it affect the installation of Windows drivers etc?

I am planning to buy a 3070 or 3060 when they are available but was hoping to use this card until then.

Well if system shows a video displaying some error, it means it works.
Are you able to get to BIOS at all?
These cards don't have pure UEFI vBIOS, but a hybrid. Not entirely sure how that works, but maybe @flobelix could explain (and correct me if I am wrong).

GTX 770 cards do in some cases still come with a legacy vbios. On most modern boards UEFI mode is now default and therefor booting is not possible. A UEFI vbios is therefor required. It is indeed hybrid which means that it can work in legacy and UEFI mode but that just helps on legacy boards and is not relevant here as the vbios seems not being a hybrid one but pure legacy. It needs to be meant for the specific card model as well. dallas.c.edward153802e4 please check pm
