hello all,
I had already bought new gx 600px, installed WinXP professional, but I am wondering, that fan is running all the time , when NB is powered on. I am from slovakia, so complete number of NB is MSI GX600PX-213Sk T8100 3G 250GB VGA HDMI. I measured CPU frequency by CPUz. In normal mode it is 1,6GHz, when I press turbo button, it ramps up to 1,93GHz. Also when I am running on battery, frequency is still 1,6GHz, even when exclusive turbo battery is running. Isnt there any speedstep driver missing?I will appreciate any suggestions.
...just for refference, here is online shop, where I got it from: http://www.agem.sk/?cmd=tovar_detail&product=11719105

Enter in BIOS and "LOAD BIOS DEFAULT", "SAVE AND EXIT", then retest.

"installed WinXP professional"

SP2/SP3 installed? Properly power scheme applied?

hi. I have installed SP3, but its still the same. Possibilities of profile settings are very weak. I thought that it will be something similar as Asus have on theirs notebooks-various profiles for various kinds of use. Here I have only normal/turbo mode. I am now looking on speedfan.exe and cores have 40degrees of Celsius after start up, VGA has 55 degrees(power mizer is enabled all the time) and fan is running. Loading BIOS defaults doesn't help. One question: is fan still running on GX series? I don't prefer to install Vista only to try this.... thx

I was talking to use correct power scheme from Control Panel==>Power Options==> Select "Minimal Power Management".

"One question: is fan still running on GX series? "

Yes the CPU fan will run all the time in all the cases.{you can't turn it off completely, based on CPU temp it should auto change the RPM}

ok, that I wanted to know. Now I am satisfied, when this is normal operation. Thanks for explanation

Yep, its normal :) The FAN can become a bit noisy with turbo pressed and when the CPU is underload. That's normal as well.

:shocked:Right now I had problem with my keyboard. When I looked into my device manager, there was CODE10(device couldn't start). Firstly I tried to restart NB including power off, but no help, so I tried to reset EC-now its wokring fine ;D -but only thanks to useful threads in this forum, not MSI support

As far as I know, actualy i read in some review before i bought myself this NB, it has an unique feature that fan use heat and pressure to power itself from the heatsink, no electricity from a fan header !!!
I don't know if it's true cuss i haven't open it being in warranty .... but if it has this feature it is logical to run all the time ... as long as there will be heat ~ there will be pressure which cause fan to rotate ~ ... more pressure->more fan speed !!!

...I never heard something like this. Then it should be a perpetum mobile. NO, is my answer. Fan in every computer(also MSI) is powered only by electric energy comming from PWM controller which can change its RPM based on feedback. Computer fans equipped with 3 or more pins have inside Hall probe(semiconductor that is sensitive to magnetic field) which is measuring actual RPM of fan(you can meaure it changing when rotation of fan is changing). PWM controller reads this value and then knows what is max/min value of RPM.
Thing you are writing about should be done only with Peltier Cell, but efficieny of back-converting heat/cold to electric energy is quite low and cell?s dimensions/price are unusable for notebook computers

since I am an designer of chargers for Li+  in ********  I have to use fans and controllers often. So it TAKES energy from battery or PSU connected to your notebook!!!!!!!!!!!!

there it is ... i found what i was talking about !! It say :
"MSI have long been known for their motherboards and graphics cards but more recently we have seen them come up with some unique features which set them apart from other manufacturers. Their Stirling engine based Northbridge heatsink (fan that uses heat and pressure to power itself, no electricity from a fan header) is a prime example of some great out of the box thinking."
and the source is here : http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews.php?reviewid=557&pageid=1

Like I say ... i don't know if it's true but I can say that is possible and It can not be an perpet-um mobile because it's using heat which is caused by electricity used by CPU or GPU ... so it's improper to say that fan use no power ... it use power consumed by other devices, a part of which is transformed in heat and fan use that heat turn it back in to power  !!

I'm not an designer but i am an engineer an i know that it is possible !! winds are caused by the difference of the air temperatures (which causes different pressures) ... winds can be used to produce electricity !!!

Ok, you got me now. I heard about this long time ago, but read this article: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=newsdesc&news_no=591

This was presented on CEBIT this year(!!!AS AN CONCEPT ONLY!!!), so I dont believe, that they implemented it into notebook-have a look on dimensions and such a mechanics. This conversation seems to me pointless. Have a look also on picture of opened notebook and what you will there see???? 3PIN cable going from fan to motherboard-so no Stirling..

-can you see here something about notebook?Note you had read here was only for information, that MSI has developed something, not exactly using in GX600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Normal FAN is used here
