Hi,

Ive got problem with getting 5.1 sound with my external Geniuses (home theater 5.1) on gx620 notebook. Ive downloaded last realtek drivers for vista ALC888S and when i run test Im hearing all the 5 speakers and the subwoofer as well. When i want to play some music (mp3's) or watch a movie (AC3 avi's) in BSPlayer, JetAudio or even in WMP just 2 front speakers are playing. Ive tried downloading all the other drivers for most of the msi notebooks but always the same result. Im running x64 ultimate vista SP1 and i have Vista codec pack x86 with x64 components (properly set AC3Filter for 5.1 output and Audio dekoder for regular mp3's as well set for 5.1 output). Moreover in JetAudio exists a feuture enabling multichannel output so you'll get stereo output on all of yours 5.1 speakers while playing mp3's). All of that is set and done and even though I just cant get 5.1 sound anywhere else than in realtek sound test. Im desperate. any suggestions plz ?

Thx in advance for any replies ...

Maybe the problem is in your "my external Geniuses (home theater 5.1".
Have you tried different configuration from the sound system?
Speaker config is ok?
Speakers properly connected?
Have you tested them in another PC?
Are you sure that the source movie is encoded in 5.1 sound?
Try change the codecs too, go for CCCP: http://mini.intternet.org/cccp/Combined-Community-Codec-Pack-2008-09-21.exe

Hi,
Ive downloaded CCCP codecs nevertheless the sound's still same. Ive also connected notebook to another speaker system and nothing (just 2 speakers playing), so the problem must be inside the machine for sure. Ive got 5.1 set in windows sound settings and in realtek utility as well. Speakers are properly connected cuz they wouldn't be playing in test unless they are corectly attached. In that realtek HD utility theres checkbox: Enable Bass management so that made my sub playing alright but thats it - two front speakers and sub. Also theres dolby theater standard: Dolby prologic II with that center, front speakers and sub are playing but still not all of em .... anyway it should be working even without this enabled.
Any more suggestions ?

That means problem is down to codec/sound format used in a movie/could be player related too.

Yea, well I've tried using many different codecs even the one you posted, set them up many different ways just to try out every possibility and still nothing ... players well thats the question ... but i used to have BSplayer and JetAudio on my Desktop computer and everything was working fine, moreover you can set up whatever audio codec and audio settings you want so i doubt thats an issue. Not even WMP working so i rly dunno anymore ...

I think its simply just because you're playing 2-channel audio. I encountered this before, when I had 5.1 speakers set up on my system, games and DVDs would play through all speakers, but when playing MP3s and WMAs in WMP, only the front speakers and sub would output the audio.

Yep that i repeat?d twice as well,
other way is to use "Stereo surround mode" from his sound speaker system if support it.
That will spread 2-channel audio to all speakers{Which has nothing to do with true ac3 encoded audio}
