Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me out here, I noticed some damage to the left hinge of my notebook about a month ago and it has rapidly deteriorated since then. The female threads that fasten the back cover to the metal hinge have sheared from the molding, now when I open/close the metal hinge acts against the back cover and front bezel splitting them apart. The model is discontinued so MSI have wiped their hands of it, I have been trawling ebay for weeks trying to find the back cover spare parts with no luck.

Has anyone had a similar situation and if so can they recommend what repairs they made or where they sourced spare parts from ? any help would be greatly appreciated as I am totally at a loss right now.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if you are still checking this... But your problem is EXACTLY what has happened to mine on same left upper side. Mine did it after warranty as well...
I guess alot of people either returned it or leave it open all the time cause this is the first time I have seen someone else have my strange problems.
It is under this metal hinge, that appears to be soldered or part of another metal part and thus cant be removed even if screw is removed from it, that there is a little metal ring that the outer screw hooks into to secure it that has come unglued. I would have cemented it back in place if I could have. I found the little metal part and managed to get it back and was able to screw the outer screw through it, but it still pulls when opened. I have to put my fingers to hold it so as not to twist motherboard but it still cannot be moved... and it was to be a gaming and DJ computer. So I pretty much have to leave it open. I was going to take it to a good repair shop, but I don't see how it can be repaired unless that hinge actually does remove.. it didn't seem like it when putting a screwdriver under it and lifting up. So I am going to see if MSI can somehow repair it.
Also I did not make a back up when I got it cause it has no DVDROM, and no option to record a backup to D drive. It appeared as though it never was able to fire up the GTX-1070 and locked up after awhile when playing Skyrim. It may have though. But I need a copy of the backup you made when you first got it. The graphics drivers on web site for this machine don't fire it up and neither does latest. This whole thing was a limited edition to start with and I have not been able to find any front cover which is the part where the metal ring was attached to. I scoured net and nvidia for different drivers but they dont seem to work and for athe front cover. Steel series vesions and updates are corrupt but I found one that works kind of like the original. Anyhow, if you could make me a backup I would pay you for your time and mailing/media costs. If you have found a solution to the defect somewhere please let me know as well.
