Firmware 1.20 results in the FAN running faster and appearing always on.  This even occurs at a boot menu without a full OS loaded.

Is this update a result of the problems with the Nvidia 8600M GT?

What long term solutions are available?
 
No idea, if your previous BIOS was better, simply go back to that one.
Don't flash when you have no reason to do so.
BIOS is not a driver, stick with the version that works best for you.

Simple answer.  Thanks.

Downgrading back to 1.19 resulted in the FAN running normally and my laptop no longer locking up.
