GX740 computer - Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

hi,

As I told in the title I am experiencing this message: "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" only when I am playing games. The symptoms are a freeze of the screen (but I can still see pointer of the mouse moving) for 10 seconds, then the screen become black, and the game recover. Frequency of this depends of the game, but it can be really often.

To be more precise about the situation: I just sent my laptop to Rma services (for a totally different problem), they said that they updated the vBios of my graphic card.

before sending my laptop, I never experienced this kind of message before. Even if sometimes I used to have GSOD or BSOD screen on certain games.

Moreover, my Graphic drivers are up to date (using driver sweeper and ccleaner ), I tried several stuff to fix this problem, but nothing worked so far. (reinstalling system, try different ATI drivers, all of my drivers are up to date besides, try to set different options in windows, act on registry  ... and other stuff).

So I do not know what causes that, maybe the new vBios is not compatible with something ? Ram memory issues ? power issues ?

According to what I read , it is quite a very common message, and it does not seem to be hardware related.

But we never know. Could you please help me on this, because I am running out of ideas to fix this issue.

Thank you for helping

Geoffrey

Flash EC-FW to the latest version 4.06:

>>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<

ok I'll try to do that during the day. I'll let you know.

Thanks.

well I am having trouble running this tool.
In fact even at start I have several error messages, "specified path are not identified" in the Ms-Dos windows (translation from French).
Then, I try to fix my USB key to make it bootable (option 4), then, there is an error message, and I cannot do anything more with my key. Windows did not recognize it anymore, and no possibilities to format my key.
When I tried to run your fix program for keys, then, also an error to install this program (the installshield engine (Ikernel.exe ) could not be launched unregistered class ?).

here is the report I got with MSIHQ tool :

MSIHQ: Information detected by MSIHQ Tool ver: 1.19R9
MSIHQ: Report generated in 22/01/2012 at 17:06:38,60

PCB Version:  REV:1.0
BIOS Version: E1727IMR.106
BIOS Date:  23/03/2010
EC-FW Version:
*********************************

My EC version is not recognized ?

Well I killed 2 USB keys doing that !! Did I do domething wrong ? How to recover my usb keys if possible ?

Thanks

Rik

Dunno why dones't works for you. Use this one instead:
Reformat them with HP Tool:
http://www.pctipp.ch/ds/28700/28790/HP_USB_Boot_Utility.exe

see how to make the USB key bootable:

http://www.bay-wolf.com/usbmemstick.htm

once done extract all files from 1727_406.zip to the USB stick and boot from it.
When you see A:\ or C:\, type "flash" without quotes and press ENTER.
Connect AC power cord before proceed.
When its done do EC Reset: https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/how-to-reset-the-ec-embedded-controller

I got an error message when installing HP Tool  (the installshield engine (Ikernel.exe ) could not be launched unregistered class ?) ...

 Are you running with account who have administravite rights?

then something is wrong with your OS then
you can prepare the USB key in another computer then

I reinstall it last Week end ... so It will be quite annoying !!

I will try on another laptop I have at home ...

then ... there is something wrong with me. Well I did a bootable key,  tried to flash using MSIHQ tool, option 1 or Unpacking files and type "flash" ....  nothing worked.  I disbled the boot quiet in the setup, but the bios is not flashing, when I use MSIHQ tool otpion 1, I boot on the key, then win 98 load, and I have to type a command in MS-dos, I did several times flash ... it is written bad command. Same, when I do the unpacking boot and type flash in MS-dos...

What is wrong with me  :bonk:
please help again .... and thanks for your patience anyway...

ok , so Finally I used the MSI tool unetbootin , to make my key bootable, and followed  this  http://www.msi.com/html/pdf/How_to_make_a_bootable_flash_disk_and_to_flash_EC.pdf

I finally switched from A: letter to C: then launched the ECALL file on the MS DOS.
well the setup for the flash started but failed with this message

I am still looking forward understanding how to update this bios   or to understand what this mean, I assume , the bios is not compatible with my computer ?

If someone can help or explain ...

Rik

have you attached the AC power cord to the notebook?

hi,

yes I have of course.  But you know what,  I have an european AC power, that I plug to an adapter for US plug. So do you think it can act on something ? I mean less power supply or whatever ? To do the procedure of flash I need everything plugged, the battery and AC power right ? So this is what I did ...

Getting lost now ... Do you think that i should flash my bios before flashing EC ?

Thanks

Rik
