The specs of the system are in the signature. Currently with BIOS 1.6B1 my QPI Ratio has three settings, 16, 18 or Auto. Auto also defaults to 18. Saw a couple of postings where people have up to 22 on the H55 boards. Previous BIOS versions had the same restriction. I contacted MSI technical. They popped in an i3-530 and the board has a selection from 12 through to 22. They however failed to give any explanation or other hints. Thus I did a bit of searching and found that there are boards that make multipliers available up to X32. The example I am referring to now was with the same processor as mine.
Thus, although I thought MSI is hinting that this restriction is caused by the CPU, I am now inclined to think it is a BIOS restriction after all. If it is, I shall hope that MSI will attend  to it, as I will post my findings to them as well.
Any comments re this apparant QPI restriction would be welcome.

Unable up to now to get clarity on this matter from MSI. They maintain its a CPU limitation. The interesting part is that some P55 boards have a setting in the BIOS for QPI Clock Ratio and for QPI Uncore ratio (same as the X58 boards). The Uncore ratio seems to be limited to X18 on these boards with an i7-870 which is the same as the QPI multiplier on the H55 board. This leads me to believe that the QPI multiplier on the H55 board is actually the Uncore Clock Ratio and that the QPI Clock Ratio cannot be adjusted on the H55 board. Is that a chipset limitation or has that just not been made available in the BIOS? Up to now I have not been able to find anything related to this on the Net.

Perhaps it is a good idea to contact Intel about that to see what they have to say.  If you get a more definate answer about this from Intel, you could then use it as part of an arguement when talking to MSI technical support again.  ;D
