Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing some persistent issues with Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) on my MSI Summit E15 A11SCST laptop. Every time I connect via RDP, the screen becomes laggy and heavily pixelated, making it extremely difficult to use.

What I've Tried:

  • Updated Graphics Drivers: I've updated both the Intel and NVIDIA drivers to the latest versions provided by MSI.
  • Disabled NVIDIA GPU: I tried disabling the NVIDIA GPU to force the system to use the Intel integrated graphics, but the issue persists.
  • Checked Network: My network connection is stable with low latency and sufficient bandwidth, so I don't believe it's a network-related issue.
  • Adjusted RDP Settings: I’ve lowered the resolution, color depth, and disabled unnecessary visual features in the RDP settings, but nothing has improved the situation.
  • Tested on Another Device: The same RDP session works fine on another laptop, suggesting that the issue is isolated to this specific MSI device.

System Specifications:

  • Model: MSI Summit E15 A11SCST
  • CPU: Intel Core i7
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti with Max-Q Design, Intel Iris Xe Graphics
  • RAM: 64GB DDR4
  • Storage: 1TB + 2TB NVMe SSDs
  • OS: Windows 11
Has anyone else encountered similar issues with this model or other MSI laptops? Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated. I’ve already reached out to MSI support, but I’m hoping the community might have some additional insights or tips.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You can use other remote software to cross-check. Additionally, I suggest you first identify the point when the problem started. For example, when you noticed the issue, what was the behavior of the MSI computer screen? Was there any delay or did the screen indeed appear laggy and heavily pixelated? If so, I would recommend checking the laptop's performance to see if there are any abnormalities.

Thank you for your response and suggestions.

Additional Steps Taken:

  1. Testing with Other Remote Software:
    • I’ve tested with alternative remote desktop software, specifically mRemoteNG and MobXtream, to cross-check. Unfortunately, the issue persists, with the screen appearing pixelated and laggy in a similar manner.
  2. Behavior When the Issue Started:
    • I can’t recall the exact time when the issue started, but I do remember that it was working fine initially. The screen now appears heavily pixelated and laggy immediately upon connecting via RDP.
  3. Laptop Performance:
    • I’ve monitored the laptop’s performance during the RDP sessions using Task Manager, and there don’t appear to be any major abnormalities. The CPU, GPU, and memory usage remain within normal ranges. I also checked the GPU usage, and interestingly, there seems to be minimal to no GPU usage during the RDP session, even when the NVIDIA GPU is enabled.

Update:

I performed a full reset of my Windows installation to ensure that there were no lingering software conflicts or issues, but unfortunately, the problem persists. The screen remains pixelated and laggy during RDP sessions, even after the reset.

Steps Taken So Far:

  1. Tested Other Remote Software: I’ve tried mRemoteNG and MobXtream with the same results.
  2. Disabled NVIDIA GPU: Attempted to force the use of the Intel integrated GPU, but no improvement.
  3. Checked Performance: Monitored system performance during RDP sessions with no abnormalities.
  4. Reset Windows: Completed a full Windows reset, but the issue is still unresolved.
Given that I’ve reset the system and the problem remains, I’m unsure what to try next. Could this still be a hardware-related issue, or is there something else I should be looking into? Any further advice would be greatly appreciated.

What I meant by checking your laptop's performance isn't about monitoring its usage, but rather using stress test software like Cinebench R20 and Time Spy to verify whether your laptop is performing as expected.
