Hi guys.

So, I have this components that i want to use on the new PC:
- MSI GeForce GT240 1GB DDR5 128-bit HDMI
- OCZ GameXStream 600 W ( OCZ600GXSSLI ) ( http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_gamexstream_power_supply-nvidia_sli_ready_ )
- 2 HD WD at 160 GB each one
- 1 Leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP Expert (PAL)
- 1 dvd writer and 1 combo
- Philips 109E5
- 4 coolers

I want to buy this:
- Motherboard: MSI X58 Platinum SLI
- CPU Type: Intel Core i7 930 2.80 GHz box
- System Memory: Kingston ValueRAM 3GB DDR3 1066MHz CL7 Triple Channel Kit

What I want to do with the new PC:
- Working in Corel Draw, Adobe PhotoShop ( home-user )
- multitasking
- games ( the newest ones )
- to watch movies, to listen to music ... etc.

I intend that after 2 years to buy a another VGA ( much better ), maybe one more DDR3 1066MHz Triple Channel Kit. For the moment I don't have a lot of money so if this VGA is ok for me i would keep it for 2 years !
If I play games i have to use my Philips 109E5 monitor so 1280x1024 resolution is fine for me.

Questions:
1. Is it a good configuration, what to change ?
2. My OCZ GameXStream 600 W is enough for the new PC ?
3. After 4, 5 years my PC will be able to support the new games ?
4. Can I use DDR3 1333 MHz or 1600 MHZ ? It is necessary ?
5. Any advice regarding for my new PC ?

Thank you very much for your help.

My advice would be to buy a 6GB kit now rather than risking not finding matching modules further down the line. I would also recommend buying modules running at 1333mhz. The kit I would recommend would be this: http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=4BB4B977A5CA7304

Good choice for motherboard and CPU. Can't fault that really.

Mark thx ... i have some more questions:

1. On Intel site ( http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?spec=SLBKP ) i saw that Intel? Core? i7-930 Processor support Memory Types DDR3 - 800/1066. It is sure that i can use modules running at 1333mhz ?

2. From were i want to buy ( http://www.pcgarage.ro/memorii/filtre/general-capacitate-6144/general-frecventa-1333/ ) i find Corsair 6GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9 XMS3 Triple Channel Kit and Kingston ValueRAM 6GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9 triple channel kit. Wich one to buy ?

3. My OCZ GameXStream 600 W is enough for the new PC ? I have to buy another one ?

Thx.

You can use 1333mhz modules. If you encounter problems you can always set the RAM to run at 1066mhz.

Up to you on the RAM front what brand you choose. I prefer Crucial because they're reliable but have found Corsair reliable too. Check out reviews to find out which people recommend.

I would say your power supply should power the computer.

Mark and if i don't intend to OC my system can i use the CPU cooler stock or i have to change it ?

I saw that X58 Platinum SLI support DDR3 800/1066/1333*/1600* (OC). I have to make some changes in BIOS for the modules to run at 1333mhz or this is automatically set by Motherboard when i install them ? ( I am not a big fan to OC :nono:  )

What do you think about my VGA ? Can i use it to play games ( the newest ones ) at 1280x1024 resolutions ?

Thank you very much for your help !

The stock CPU cooler that comes with the i7 930 will be fine unless you overclock.

The RAM modules should be detected as 1333mhz automatically. If they aren't then it's not hard to change in the BIOS.

Depends what games you play. It will run some fine but there are some more demanding games the GT 240 will struggle with.

Agree with Mark on the RAM. Go for a 3 X 2gb kit. The crucials are probably the better choice as they allow tighter timings to be set. I have had the KVR and they were good. Now have the Crucials as per my signature in the i7 rig.
The power supply I would strongly recommend the Corsair VX550 and for the GPU, spend the extra couple of bucks and get a GTS250, you wont be sorry. If you want to be future proof for games though, then start considering a GTX460 or alternatively run 2 GTS250s in SLI. In that case I would recommend the Corsair TX650 PSU.

zsde do you think that it will be troubles with my OCZ GameXStream 600 W ? It is not a good supply for my system ?

For the moment i don't have more money to buy another VGA, but after 2 years i will buy a new one. I don't want to play all the games on high resolutions and details.
And maybe i will play ( like now ) 3, 4 games on a year  :).

Thx for help.

Most forum members will suggest the Corsair PSUs due to the high reliability and efficiency and the single 12V rail.  Experience has shown them to be in the upper end of solid power deliver over many years.
For the start I would really recommend to get a GTS250 as they are quite capable of giving you a good performance in most games. My personal experience with my GTS250 was that the GPU could OC quite a bit and that helped to increase the FPS. But its an excellent all rounder. The 240 is just a bit too restrictive and there is a big jump from 240 to the 250. Then you could always get another 250 later to SLI.

Don't know how old your PSU is, but recommend a +12V single rail like the Corsair TX650 zsde talks about. Save up & get the best VGA you can. As for memory sticks, either the Crucials Or Corsair's should work fine. You can put a 3X2G kit of 2000's in the rig if you want, they can always be set to run at 1066.

Edit: Actually, I would recommend the Pro-E board over the Platinum SLI anyday! :-))

If i was you i would definitely go for p55 + i5 760 + 4gb(2x2Gb) RAM configuration, that would save you ~ $150-200 without significant performance drop, but it would allow you to buy new VGA, that would be GTX 460. Forget about playing newer games on gt240, I would definitely sell it. i5 760 is great value and very very overclockable.

I believe Drops said that he will not OC. Thus the X58 platform is the better option in terms of tripple channel memory capability and the associated advantages. The CPU prices are about the same, and having looked around, there are many X58 MB discounts to be had. So the price advantage is not that significant anymore.

i7 930 can be bought for ~ $280 from most of stores, its $80 more than i5 760, considering that there is a lot of discounts for p55 boards as well X58 boards still at least ~ $50 more expensive. Performance wise x58 platform still not that much better than p55. I would go p55 and better VGA, but this is my personal opinion. In the end its all about budget.
Drops whats your budget?

For the moment 810 $ for motherboard, CPU and System Memory.
I already have VGA and supply.

After 2, 3 years i can upgrade the VGA and supply.

Lets not compare i5-7XX with i7-9XX. We are talking 4 core 4 thread CPU vs 4 core 8 Thread CPU, a distinct difference in terms of multitasking and especially Working in Corel Draw and Adobe PhotoShop as was mentioned.
i7-8XX are the only 1156 CPUs that can be compared but also do not support tripple channel memory. Its a compromise between a solid X58 platform and a lesser GPU, or a lower performance platform with a better GPU. For the primary intended tasks at hand, the choice is right.

The X58's have been around longer & having been so, most of any glitches are worked out. The P55 on the other hand, is still having it's growing pains IMHO. Like zsde, recommend stay on course & get the X58. If you try to get another 3 years out of your PSU, how old is it now? May be wise to upgrade the PSU now rather than later.

Do you think that it will be troubles with it?
I can't honestly say for certainty it will be a problem, but I would not like to see your investment go up in smoke because the PSU failed on you. The PSU is a critical part of the system.

Is it really THAT much faster? lets not overrate number of threads, yes i agree x58 has its advantages, but real life performance gap is not significant. Its like you said: "compromise between a X58 platform and a lesser GPU, or a lower performance platform with a better GPU"  but real life performance difference inst that big even for listed above applications.

Im just trying to say that if u r on the budget, and planning to use your pc for gaming along with graphics editing programs, it could be wise to sacrifice "4 cpu threads" for better graphics. Cause i5 quadcores are still plenty of horsepower for multitasking and various applications. I guess after all compromise between x58 + gt240 and p55 + gtx460 is a question of personal preference.

H55-GD65 MB, i7 870 CPU and then the Crucial RAM. I also would say replace the PSU with Corsair TX650W.
I personally feel the H55 has been a bit more stable platform out of the box than the P55. Performance difference between the i7 930 & i7 870 would not be enough to notice i think and the lower TDP of the 1156 CPU is a + in its favor.
