Hi guys.

So, I have this components that i want to use on the new PC:
- MSI GeForce GT240 1GB DDR5 128-bit HDMI
- OCZ GameXStream 600 W ( OCZ600GXSSLI ) ( http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_gamexstream_power_supply-nvidia_sli_ready_ )
- 2 HD WD at 160 GB each one
- 1 Leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP Expert (PAL)
- 1 dvd writer and 1 combo
- Philips 109E5
- 4 coolers

I want to buy this:
- Motherboard: MSI X58 Platinum SLI
- CPU Type: Intel Core i7 930 2.80 GHz box
- System Memory: Kingston ValueRAM 3GB DDR3 1066MHz CL7 Triple Channel Kit

What I want to do with the new PC:
- Working in Corel Draw, Adobe PhotoShop ( home-user )
- multitasking
- games ( the newest ones )
- to watch movies, to listen to music ... etc.

I intend that after 2 years to buy a another VGA ( much better ), maybe one more DDR3 1066MHz Triple Channel Kit. For the moment I don't have a lot of money so if this VGA is ok for me i would keep it for 2 years !
If I play games i have to use my Philips 109E5 monitor so 1280x1024 resolution is fine for me.

Questions:
1. Is it a good configuration, what to change ?
2. My OCZ GameXStream 600 W is enough for the new PC ?
3. After 4, 5 years my PC will be able to support the new games ?
4. Can I use DDR3 1333 MHz or 1600 MHZ ? It is necessary ?
5. Any advice regarding for my new PC ?

Thank you very much for your help.

I guess after all compromise between x58 + gt240 and p55 + gtx460 is a question of personal preference.
If budget is an issue, Henry has built an H55 system that performs 'very' well at a 'very' reasonable cost. IMHO, the H55 has been, shall we say. less problematic than P55's?
Edit: Beat me to it Henry! :lol_anim:

HX650 is a modular and more expensive version of TX650. For Corsair PSU the TX & VX versions are recommended.

This one:

Henry if it is good HX650 i will buy it ! I don't know but if it is modular is not a better choice ?
I will make this effort and i will try to buy a good supply.

So i am thinking of this configuration:
1. Motherboard: MSI X58 Platinum SLI
2. Corsair CMPSU-650HX
3. CPU Type: Intel Core i7 930 2.80 GHz box
4. Corsair 6GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9 XMS3 Triple Channel Kit
5. MSI GeForce GT240 1GB DDR5 128-bit HDMI ( i already have this one ! )
6. 2 HD WD at 160 GB each one ( i already have those )
7. 1 Leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP Expert (PAL) ( i already have this one ! )
8. 1 dvd writer and 1 combo ( i already have ! )
9. Philips 109E5 ( i already have ! )
10. 4 coolers ( i already have ! )

Henry if this system is good ( the VGA i will change it after 2 years for sure ) i will buy it ( from 1 to 4 i have to buy ) BUT if you say that another system is much better i will change it ( I thank you all you guys because you are helping me ! ).
So what I need to change ?

Thx.

Henry some persons from that site are complaining that the Corsair CMPSU-650TXEU is not a modular one.
You are sure that is much better for my system ? I don't know if modular is a better choice !

Thx.

Corsair is a very good brand, the problem with modular is that they add an extra plug in connection between the cables from PSU to component it plugs into and that added connection is one extra thing that can go wrong. Sure it's more difficult to hide the extra cables that come from the non-modular PSU but in the end they are slightly more reliable.

Bottom line is that for reliability and solid performance a good quality non-modular single +12V rail PSU is what should be used. For it's price, I and plenty of other people would agree that the Corsair TX650 is the one to get.

If after 2 years i will change the VGA with MSI GeForce GTX 470 1.28GB DDR5 320-bit ( for example ) this supply will be good ?
I saw this one Corsair CMPSU-750TXEU ( non-modular ).

One over another what do you think about the configuration above ?

Thx.

1. Motherboard: MSI X58 Platinum SLI
2. Corsair CMPSU-650HX
3. CPU Type: Intel Core i7 930 2.80 GHz box
4. Corsair 6GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9 XMS3 Triple Channel Kit
5. MSI GeForce GT240 1GB DDR5 128-bit HDMI ( i already have this one ! )
6. 2 HD WD at 160 GB each one ( i already have those )
7. 1 Leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP Expert (PAL) ( i already have this one ! )
8. 1 dvd writer and 1 combo ( i already have ! )
9. Philips 109E5 ( i already have ! )
10. 4 coolers ( i already have ! )
Looks real good. As for the PSU, #2 on the list, the debate over Corsair HX or XT series will rage on forever. For 'future proofing', the TX750 certainly should give some latitude for component upgrades. :-))

Edit: Please be aware that to fully support the i7 930 CPU, the Platinum SLI needs to have at least the 3.6 bios version or newer installed on it.

HU16E pls tell me what i have to do to find out witch bios version will have the MB that i intend to buy ?
I will buy from here - http://www.pcgarage.ro/placi-de-baza/msi/x58-platinum-sli/.
I look it here http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1703 and when i will make the order i will ask them ( on the phone ) witch bios version is installed.

But how can i update the bios version if necessary ? Using live update ?
And when i update the bios version what could go wrong ?

Thx man !

The only way to tell what BIOS it has out of the box is to look at the sticker on the BIOS chip. That could vary by the date it left the factory. The place you purchase it from could open the box and see what it is and if needed they could (if they would) update it before shipping.

And suppose that i have to update the bios version what i have to do?
Do as Henry suggested & ask the vendor to check it for you. You can't update the board without a supported CPU, so again, request the assistance of the vendor to check it prior to shipping it to you.

Just a thought. If you are going to continue using your GT240 and you feel comfortable that your PSU is still in good shape, then I for one, would continue to use it for now and upgrade at the same time that you upgrade your GPU. If the new PSU is within your budget though, then the recommendation remains to get the Corsair.

Hi guys.

I talked on the phone and they said is there is no cost for me to upgrade the BIOS by them.
I ask them to upgrade to the latest bios version - 3.8.
So, one more problem solved.

zsde i decided to buy this Corsair CMPSU-750TXEU i think that you are right and it is more secure for my system.
So, I think that for the moment i will remain to this configuration:
1. Motherboard: MSI X58 Platinum SLI ( with the latest Bios version )
2. Corsair CMPSU-750TXEU ( update from Corsair CMPSU-650HX )
3. CPU Type: Intel Core i7 930 2.80 GHz box ( with cooler stock for 2 years at least - No OC in this time )
4. Corsair 6GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9 XMS3 Triple Channel Kit ( maybe, after 2 years i will buy one more triple channel kit )

5. MSI GeForce GT240 1GB DDR5 128-bit HDMI ( i already have this one and i will buy a new one after 2 years at least - maybe a MSI GeForce GTX 470 1.28GB DDR5 320-bit for example )
6. 2 HD WD at 160 GB each one ( i already have those - for the moment it is enough for me )
7. 1 Leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP Expert (PAL) ( i already have this one ! )
8. 1 dvd writer and 1 combo ( i already have ! )
9. Philips 109E5 ( i already have ! )
10. 4 coolers ( i already have ! )

Any more suggestions ? I already made the phone order but at least 2 or 3 days i have to wait. So i can change something if it necessary.

Thx, you are the best guys !

That is excellent news! Everything looks good to go! As for purchasing more RAM in two years, by then, you just may find out you really won't need that much. :-))

Looks good to me. Be sure to give it a test setup outside of the case on a piece of plain clean cardboard when you get all of the parts. After you are sure everything is working good then you can install in the case. Saves a lot of time and work if something is wrong in the beginning and you need to do some trouble shooting.

Hi guys.

I bought the PC components and i am pleased how it works.

Two problems:

1. I wonder why my Corsair 6GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9 XMS3 Triple Channel Kit is working as 1066 MHz ? Is my MB or CPU responsabile for that ?
I have the latest MB Bios version and i will post some pictures to see my settings --> http://img543.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=031020101226.jpg. It is possible to make my RAM working at 1333 without OC ? If yes please tell me what i have to do.
That is my MB: MSI X58 Platinum SLI - http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1703.

2. I start to save money to change the CPU cooler stock. What cooler do you recomand ?
I think to buy Cooler Corsair CWCH70 - http://www.pcgarage.ro/coolere/corsair/cwch70/ & http://www.corsair.com/products/h70/default.aspx.
It is good or i should buy an air cooler ?

Thx.

Please take a screenshot of the CPU "SPD" and "Memory" view, upload the images somewhere and include the links here for comparison.  Either the SPD profiles are responsible for that or the fact that your processor's memory controller natively only supports DDR3-1066.

It is possible to make my RAM working at 1333 without OC ?

No, DDR3-1333 means overclocking the memory controller (as it is natively built for DDR3-1066 operation only).  All you have to do is to raise the Memory Ratio one step.

It's working.  I must have missed it before.

As indicated before, you have to manually increase the DRAM Speed by adjusting the memory ratio in BIOS Setup (Cell Menu).  Also, set the Command Rate to 2T as well.  It is currently set to 1T, which may lead to stability problems @DDR3-1333.
