I purchased an MSI laptop on December 2, 2024, and it was delivered to me on December 4, 2024. I am encountering a serious issue with the laptop. It shuts down unexpectedly when it reaches high temperatures. Based on the tests I have conducted, I believe the issue is temperature-related, but it could also be a hardware malfunction.

It is really frustrating to experience such an issue with a new device. I would appreciate your guidance and suggestions on how to resolve this issue so that my laptop functions properly. I would also like to be informed if any support or repair process needs to be initiated to address the problem.

You need to immediately contact MSI support and report this. Check windows event viewer for any alerts and collect system dump also.

Check the following thread to see if your issue is similar

If you have the similar issue then use the temporary fix below till MSI releases an update. Meanwhile you should contact MSI support or return your laptop for a replacement or just get a refund.

"Thank you so much for your support, my friend. Now, instead of showing 70-77 degrees at idle, it's showing 55-62 degrees. Also, I think it might need some thermal maintenance. Is it normal for a factory-default device to perform like this?"

Have you done anything to reduce the temperature like following the guide to install the microcode update?

Yes, I performed a microcode update. In short, before the update, my CINEBENCH R23 score was 28,676, and after the update, it increased to 29,929. However, while playing games (Battlefield 2042), the CPU temperature sometimes reaches up to 97°C, with an average temperature around 92°C. The GPU temperature is measured at 81°C.

One thing I noticed after the update is that the CPU clock speeds have dropped while idle. Before the update, it would sometimes reach up to 5200 MHz, but after the update, the clock speed has dropped to between 2.2 GHz and 1.4 GHz.

If there is no hardware issue, I don’t plan on returning it. I’m satisfied with the device; my only issue is the temperatures. However, in the worst case, I may request a replacement. I will contact customer service during business hours tomorrow.

You can use Throttlestop to reduce CPU voltage which will reduce your temperature also

Yes, I do, plus I have a laptop cooler. When I limit the CPU 75W, the temperatures vary between 84-87 but sometimes it goes up to 98 degrees.

high temps are normal unless you limit your cpu or fps in games etc. but shutting down is very much not, the cpu should always just throttle itself so either it doesn't do that properly or your shutdown trip point temp is too low(default should be 103-105C if i remember right) or the reason is totally different, you should check event viewer for errors after each crash.

looks like your turbo is disabled did you set your maximum cpu state in power options to less than 100%? it doesnt make sense for that update to affect your clock speeds, and do you actually get up to 87C on 2.2GHz?

did you try without the cooler? did it make any difference?

yes before i did undervolt and decreased turbo ratios and tpls in throttlestop on mine i was hitting up to 70C just watching vids on youtube, this cpu just keeps boosting for no reason (now im at 50-54C in idle).

Today, I spoke with MSI's authorized service, and they asked me to send the device. The issue with shutdowns occurs in the game "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6." I haven’t experienced this problem in other games. However, even when my CPU is idle, the temperature suddenly reaches 98-99-100°C, with an average of around 60-70°C. Especially in games (for example, Battlefield 2042), when I check HWiNFO64, the temperature even goes up to 108°C. While it's normal for a CPU to operate between 80-94°C, I am still concerned to see temperatures hitting 100-105-108°C every 10-15 seconds.

I scored 29,926 points in Cinebench R23. Additionally, I tried undervolting using ThrottleStop, but even when I entered values like -160, -100, -100, the software shows everything as "0.0000," and I still can’t figure out why. I also tried fixing the "Maximum Processor Frequency" to 5000 MHz through the power plan options, but this didn’t work, and the CPU is still showing 5800 MHz.

I spent the entire day testing and trying different solutions, but the result is still unsuccessful. Currently, I have no choice but to limit the CPU to 55W. I don't know what else to try.

I experienced the same issue again. While playing Call of Duty Black Ops 6, my laptop completely shut down after about 20-25 minutes. This time, I have also included the Windows Event Log.I have also included the 3DMARK test. Please help.

ye i would not even try to fix this, definitely best to do RMA.

I assume your model is Vector 16 HX A14VHG, is that right?
According to the score of TimeSpy extreme, it is still as expected which means the laptop's function and performance should be well.
Does the crashing issue only occur while playing Call of Duty Black Ops 6?
Is there any error code showing?
For the event viewer log, there are application and system logs, and select "save all events as..."

Model: VECTOR 16 HX A14VHG

I am experiencing this issue only while playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. As I mentioned earlier, the idle temperatures range between 64-75°C. During gameplay, with PL1 set to 65 and PL2 to 75, the CPU temperature reaches 93-105°C.

I performed an undervolt through the BIOS with values of -90, -90, and -60. However, attempting further undervolting causes the system to crash. I have also tried to limit the CPU clock speeds, but it didn’t solve the problem. I couldn’t find a way to lock the CPU clock speed at 5000 MHz; I believe this could potentially solve the issue.

Upon detailed investigation, I noticed that P-Core 3 and P-Core 5 are reaching higher temperatures compared to the other cores. For example, while all 24 cores operate between 60-70°C, P-Core 3 and P-Core 5 exceed 80°C. Gameplay data also confirms this behavior.

I am unsure if this is a thermal issue (I bought the device just 5 days ago), a problem with the cooling block, or a hardware defect. I apologize if my English is not perfect; I find it challenging to explain the issue. I would greatly appreciate your help.

If the issue only occurs while playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, it might related to the game itself.
But the temperature is still higher than expected, kindly try to turn on the cooler boost while playing and check if it could solve the issue.
If yes, the laptop don't crash during the game with cooler boost, the issue is probably related to the thermal and you should contact the service center or the store for assistance.
