The first thing you want to do is make a Burn Recovery which will backup the current Windows 8.1 for factory settings if you ever need to go back.
You should have Burn Recovery on your laptop. Also there is a Burn Recovery Help which shows how to do it.
Next make sure you have all the Windows 8.1 updates completed and backup any files just in case. I have the same laptop and have had no issues.
Then you can perform the Windows 10 upgrade. Windows 10 will also give you the option to go back to Windows 8.1 for 30 days if you decide you do not like it.
