This will also fix "dead battery" problems where windows will show your battery to be broken, fx. after letting the battery die out while the laptop is in sleep mode. Follow the steps and the battery will possibly be fixed magically.

concerning this EC reset,

under the heading : - features accessible via the FN-Buttons do not function properly or not at all (volume, screen dimming, webcam, WLAN on/off etc.)

the problem i have isn't that the fn button doesnt work, what happens is when i use it it reset my keyboard typing speed.

i think this might be more a keyboard controler problem ?

this is a noobie question, but how do I find out what is my EC version? I tried the system info, it shows version of the BIOS and update time, but there is nothing about EC.

Dear Svet

Svet said:
If do you flash a notebook BIOS, you must do the following AFTER the flash:

1. Turn notebook OFF with button, hold 4 seconds.
2. Remove recharge plug
3. Remove battery
4. Leave it like this for about 5 minutes.
5. Put everything back and power the laptop again.

The new BIOS should work properly now.
This procedure resets the Embedded Controller (EC), so best been done as described.
(MSI Europe informed me about the need for this procedure)
First of all, I would like to say hello to everybody, it's my first post here on MSI Forum.

It's good to know, because in the next week I am going to buy MSI GX70 3BE and update BIOS to the newest one. I've heard that there is a possibility to disable Enduro and integrated GPU, to boost CPU, but it's only possible with unlocked options in BIOS, is it correct?

EDIT

Svet I have sent you an e-mail message. I would be glad if you will reply.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.

Sincerely

Looks like a pin hole exists on the side of the notebook for cases like the GS60, where the battery is not removable. When you push a pin through it, you can feel a spring button gets pressed inside.

Hi everyone

Im glad to see this thread hope someone can help me i have a msi gt683r with a gtx 670m.
I have this problems:

- The USB of the right side, next to the audio jacks doesnt work.
- The FN-Buttons do not function properly in screen dimming.
- Problems with fan regulation (e.g. fan always running @100% with light of the fan off, when i press the fan button light goes on fan goes maybe to 80%), the system OS doesnt controll fan speed.
- Low brightness, i mean it seems it only gives me 50% of what i should had, and sometimes the light flickers. (Dont know if it is because of my 150w psu since i upgrade it to gtx 670m).

Gt687R ?
Bios version: EF16F2IMS.30Z 04/06/2012
ECVERSION:16F2EMS1 VER4.24 12/06/2011

So is this problems related to my EC Firmware i already tried to do what is mention on this thread didnt work and i also reset the bios dindt work to.

Does anyone knows how to solve this problems?
Thank you

Good day.  I have a Ghost Pro and my battery is not (apparently?) removable.  I cannot get into the BIOS.  I did when I first received the machine and despite doing nothing substantial besides changing a boot order around I can no longer access it.  I have contacted support twice to tell them this and they still tell me to "remove the battery".  I'll save my complaint for another time.

Anyway.  I saw the note about the pinhole reset, I tried to do this but this still hasn't enabled me to access the BIOS.  Is there an order of operations I need to follow?

Thanks

I have the GE72 6QD Apache Pro. I am trying to confirm the location of the EC reset. On the  underside of the laptop there is a small hole towards the front that looks like it has a box with either arrows or a circle around it is this the EC hole? I tried to use a CD removal pin but, it was too big which is why I am unsure now. Also, you said to hold the EC reset for 5 minutes, or press the reset and wait 5 minutes?

You must remove the battery from the circuit so you need to hold it down for 5 minutes.

Rip your finger.

Thank you, so just to be clear, my battery is not removable but, holding the EC reset for 5 minutes isolates the MB from the battery, correct?
