Motherboard: MSI B450-A PRO MAX.
With an AMD Ryzen 3 1200 installed, BIOS setup is fully accessible (Del key works normally, full POST screen shown).
After upgrading to an AMD Ryzen 5 5500, BIOS setup is no longer accessible: no "Press Del" prompt appears, the board gives 3 short beeps, the screen stays black for about 15-20 seconds, then the system boots straight into Windows. Windows itself runs completely normally and passes all stress tests.
This happens regardless of:
- GPU used (tested with a Sapphire RX580 8GB, reflashed to the latest UEFI-capable VBIOS, and separately with an old non-UEFI Radeon HD card)
- Monitor and HDMI port used
- Number of RAM sticks (tested with 2x8GB and with a single stick alone)
- Whether the NVMe SSD is connected or removed
- Multiple CMOS resets (jumper and battery removal)
- BIOS version (tested both the newest available and the oldest version listed as supporting the Ryzen 5 5500)
"Restart to UEFI firmware settings" from Windows, including running shutdown /r /fw /t 0 from an admin command prompt, also results in a black screen instead of the setup UI.
Swapping the CPU back to the Ryzen 3 1200 immediately restores full, normal BIOS access with the exact same BIOS version, RAM, and GPU installed.
Is this a known issue with the Ryzen 5 5500 on this board? Is there a fixed or beta BIOS available that addresses it?
